Hey yall...

I've got a Viper Red 2012 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4WD.
I did a 2.5" leveling kit from the dealership, blacked out my factory 20"s and thought it would be good... Well that was just under a year ago and now I want to get some real height under the truck. My dream setup is as follows:

6" lift (BDS or Zone)
35's
20" Ultra Crushers (or something like that)

Now the real question is this: Is a 6" lift on these trucks just a bolt up relocation system or is there a whole bunch of extra work involved?
My dad and I are probably going to take the project on ourselves and NIETHER of us have done anything even remotely close to this...

Any thoughts you can give me going into it? Anyone have an experience in doing these and have some pointers?

Also do I need a lift in my shop to do it or can I just use jackstands...Pretty Redneck I know, but what ya gonna do?

Dat Cummins!
I put a 6" RCX on my 12. It's a lot of work, but you and your dad will be able to handle it. I had the privilege to use a lift but you should be able to accomplish the job using jack stands.

The only advice I can give you...... Go over the directions until they are memorized and make sure you have all the proper tools. You will need every tool that is listed on the instructions.

I agree with what all have mentioned above....
Many here and other ram owners have installed their kits themselves.
Actually, I am seeing more and more these days members installing the kit themselves or with another buddy

You will be ok.
Just take your time and dont rush it.
Do it right once and you will be ok

If you do need pricing on the lift and wheels (rims and tires) let me know. I can get your ramforum pricing ;)

Awesome - Thanks guys I feel up to the task now that I get some validation. I will use the directions as my bible and get it done! Its going to be a few weeks before I get the lift on. Going to run the stock 20's blacked out with some Micky's or Nitto's not sure yet.

@FastnUgly - what kind of pricing are we talking? I'm open to other lifts too... I just want to keep the price as reasonable as I can. Here's a pic of my rig next to my Business partner's '13

Thanks again yall!

Yup, plan on a nice loooong weekend to work on it.
Don't rush, if something seems wrong, it likely is.

Lift Kits are rather simple in nature, its just making sure you keep it tight.
Also, remember to re-torque everything a couple times.

I just did mine last week with a jack and jack stands. Just take your time and follow the instructions. If you have any mechanical know how you will be just fine. I used the Rough Country, but I have used Zone in the past it was a great lift and they have AWESOME customer service if you get hung up. I was even calling them from Italy!

Dude! Your truck looks RAD - what is your wheel/tire setup?

I like the wheel to rubber ratio a LOT.

One more random question - I have seen a lot of guys buying the $400 PA 3" body lifts. That whole concept scares me just from the concept of having the whole cab ride on mounts rather than on the actual frame. Do they cause Vibration and stuff? Seems like they would, but I'm no expert here.

I guess I'm wondering because a 6" suspension lift + a 3" body lift might look pretty bad ass - then I can run 37's w/ 20's... anyhoo thoughts?

I ran the 3" Body Lift (6" + 2.1 Bilsteins + 3" = 11" lift) and I am as **** as can be and I did not like the creaking and the feel of the body floating.
Plus I wanted to add AMP powersteps and did not want to go through the hassle of notching the body, so I removed it.
Happy with my set up now.

Mind you...I have ran 3 different heights and this one stuck...lol

Hell yea - your truck looks rad!

I will steer clear of the body lifts - I am really particular about the squeaks and stuff too, so it would probably drive me nuts.

6" and 35's will due just fine!

This was my truck during winter.
6" + 1.4 Bilstiens with 35's (325/60/20)

Not bad if you ask me....

I've done a BDS and RCX, you can do it. Took me 10 hours the first time, 8 hours the next. Keep track of the nuts and bolts that will be going back on the truck, we ran a ball joint nut onto the camber end by accident...oops! Luckily a trip to the local dealer saved me but just a simple thing like that can slow you down if you're not paying attention. Lesson learned!
