I'm looking at new tires for my lowered quad cab. I want to put them on my 20x9 chrome class. I can't decide between a 285/40-20 or 285/50-20. I'm leaning towards the 285/40 they measure at 29" in diameter. Does anyone think they might be to small?

I'd like to see how 285/40s look too.

I might just have to get that size, I can deal with a bit of wheel gap.

A 29" tire will be a very short tire for a truck. I downsize to 28" only for drag racing, the rest of the time it's a 31" tire. Even at a 2/4 drop I had 4" of fender gap on a set of DRs and it really does look odd. Also, a 40 series tire has minimal sidewall and you will feel a lot more of the road through the wheels and now have to be very careful about potholes.

The NT420S tires are an awesome otherwise, I swear by them for my summer street tires. There are a couple better performers out there but not with the same tread life as the NT420S.

Sorta.

Stock tire measured like 33" or something. Once the RT's were on it measure like 31.X

It looks ok cause the wheels are 22", but the fender gap slightly increased with a lower pro tire and the 1.5" height difference.

My truck is small, so it doesn't look out of place. On a CC, it may look a tad small IMO.

I'd think they would look too short, unless you are lowered to the point you are laying frame.
