Fellas,
Just purchased (leased) a '19 Ram. It's making a noise that I'm not real sure what it is. Sounds like sound system bass but it isn't that because it makes the noise when sound system is off. very very similar sound though. could it be the ERS Operation that is auto changing gears? Is that something I need to adjust? It seems like the noise usually occurs when decelerating or accelerating. Thanks. Sorry for the "new guy" type question. This is my first Ram.

Does it do it at cruising speed or under acceleration as well?

Since you ask, it seems like it's usually just at cruising speed after accelerating or decelerating.

Is it maybe the noise cancellation? I have heard what I believe is the noise cancellation make a sound when I accelerate.

I get a humming exhaust resonance at cruising speed / very light acceleration. I have isolated it to the right side. Under right conditions it rattles the cab. I have not been able to duplicate with the dealer, so my next step is to capture video of conditions with sound.

Kfield -- That sounds very familiar to my issue. It drives my wife crazy and she's on me nonstop about getting it looked at. But there are times I've driven it and not heard it, so I know my luck when I get it to the dealer it won't be heard.

That’s mine. It is an exhaust drone. It is real bad on long flat roads cruising between 55-75. At 80 on Highway I don’t really get it. Like I said I could not replicate when a service tech, so I will try to get a video with sound and driving conditions for them. I want to make sure it is an exhaust issue before I put a cat back setup on.

The drone only originated on driver side, nothing from the passenger side.

Is it related to when the mds kicks in or does this happen even with the mds disabled?

For me it’s when MDS activates from what I can tell. The longer it’s engaged cruising the worse the resonance gets, to the point it cause other things to verberate.

Yeah that definitely sounds like something is wrong. I don't leave exhausts stock for very long but I know I could barely tell when mds kicked in when it was stock. With the aftermarket muffler it is much more obvious when it does, to the point where I don't leave it on around town at all. However, I do leave it on for longer highway trips, went a couple hundred miles last night and even with the aftermarket muffler I didn't have anything vibrating or being effected because of the mds.

Yeah well the only way for the dealer to do something is if I can replicate it. When I tried there were too many idiots on the road to get a constant speed long enough for it to happen.

I sympathize with you completely there, I genuinely love driving but other people can take all the joy out of it in an instant.

Hi Kfield and rampack15,
I can see how this would become very frustrating. As you are already aware, the dealer cannot address your concern if it cannot be duplicated. Nevertheless, if you do end up going into the dealer, you can let us know and we would be happy to send this to a Case Specialist who will communicate with the dealer to find a potential solution.

Thanks Lydia.

Since my original post, I haven't heard the noise. I haven't driven very long distances or reached any sort of high speed. Basic around town drives.

Ask the dealer to turn off the Active Noise Cancellation and see if the problem goes away. I can just about guarantee that is the issue.

They use Active Noise Cancellation to try and erase the drone of the engine to make the cabin quieter. For many people, the noise cancellation causes ear pressure, dizzyness, and in a few people sickness. If the Noise Cancellation is off by just a little bit, it will make the noises you are describing.

GM has the same issue. Google suburban buffeting and you see thousands of people complaining about how Active Noise Cancellation is causing them the same physical symptoms.

Also, let us know how the dealer turned off the Active Noise Cancellation, as others would appreciate how to do it.

Thanks for the input! I will talk to the tech about it.

I did a little research and that may very well be the issue.
