Sounds like the power steering pump to me. I could be wrong though. Did you check the fluid level?

Went to dealer they can't figure it out... big surprise fluid level is okay. I can't stand the fact I have to try and do all the work to figure out what is wrong on things.

Any help or ideas would be great. I think it is power steering but don't know how to prove it.

Does it just make a noise first at start-up then goes away?
That's what the video seemed like.

Does it only do it when it's cold outside?

I'm asking, because I think my truck has the same deal. I'm just always in it when it starts, and since it's almost instantly goes away, I think nothing of it.

Yeah just on startup when cold. It is fine once driving but sounds terrible when started. We did not notice it right away because we both start with remote start most times.

Shoot, I don't even have power locks..:waytogo:

I've also check my fluid level, and it's spot on. Only thing I can thing of is the pump runs dry for a very short period of time. Briefly looking at it, it doesn't make sense, the res on my truck is mounted above the pump, I'd think air would work its way OUT of the unit overnight, not the opposite. :(

It's the power steering *fluid*.

The old Neons did the same exact thing. I changed to Redline PS Fluid, noise went away.

Only on cold mornings, and only for about 5 seconds.

I didn't watch the video, but when I was working at the dodge dealer we'd have older caravans come in making power steering noise but everything was seemingly okay. One of the older guys there told me that Chrysler's fix, according to a tsb, was to put in some Lucas power steering stop leak. Not completely drain and refill with it, but just supplement the fluid with some. I had to do this to a few cars and it worked pretty well. I also have a 94 cobra that had a noisy PS pump and the Lucas made it pretty quiet. Fyi, Chrysler calls for atf+4 be used for PS fluid. Not traditional PS fluid or regular atf.

My PT Started doing That when cold then all the time and started leaking, Replaced the Pump but had to by a service kit to pull the Bakelite pulley over from the old unit as the new pumps don't come with one. 18mm Flare nut wrench too. As for changing to another fluid that may work but in all my 3 Mopars I only put ATF+4 in there as recommended. Now Chrysler has come out with an advanced Fluid for Power Steering Units but not sure what years/make started to use it rather than the ATF+4. BTW I also Use 3 different Lucas Products regularly in the Ram.

Let me rant for a second.

So when I took the in to see what was wrong the dealer said they could not figure anything out. I had shown them the video seemed pretty obvious to me.

Came out today after putting tires on the ride for my wife yesterday as factory ones were shot.

Guess what I found ATF+4 all over the ground and of course little to no power steering. So I called the dealer and setup for them to fix Monday and asked for a rental. What do they give me to use? A POS Ford Windstar and no gas in the damn thing. So I went back in and said I just filled the Journey and I am not putting an once of gas in that thing. So they went and put it in gas. I just don't understand how dealers always continue to disappoint me. Do they ever go over and above?

A lot of dealerships are about the front side (sales). Very few sales people actually keep their past clients happy. I know it's not a requirement, but it makes you feel like your getting some decent treatment around the place.

Got it fixed brought in Saturday they were closing around noon. Got it back today at about 815am with new power steering cooler line. I have no idea how other one blew out since this rig does no tough work and does not tow or anything. Dealer sucks will never buy from them. Glad to have it back so I can have my truck back.
