It seems a good number of posts on any vehicle forums are negative. I see the lifter ones weekly. Yes we all know it's an issue but I believe it seems much worse here than it actually is. So many that have a failure come here, most that don't never post anything. This got me to thinking about our vacation last month. Several friends families and ours went to Wyoming to camp in the mountains for 2 weeks with toy haulers. There were a variety of different configurations but I really enjoyed the 6.2 Ford comparison with my 6.4 Ram. Towing power seems comparable, but the 6.4 gets decently better fuel mileage in all scenarios. Loaded, unloaded, city, highway no matter. And those 6.2s rattle at startup as much or more than the 6.4. There were 2 6.2s there. 2017 & 2019. Both did it, sometimes even with warm startup which mine never does. And speaking of fuel mileage, we unhooked for a few days and drove around Yellowstone. Probably averaged 45 MPH, but has anyone ever seen mileage like this? 21 hand calculated! The Ford's were still 14-15 mpg! I love my Ram and just wanted to give the hemi some props. Sure would like to have that Godzilla power in one soon though.

I drove the 6.2 last year as a direct comparison before purchasing this truck and came away unimpressed. Sluggish off the line and thirsty. Maybe it’s a tuning or transmission thing, because I always felt the same in a Ram with a 6 speed. Too much torque management or something.

With the ZF the sluggishness is gone. The appetite isn’t diminished though. I’ve never seen mpg like that. And I’m okay with it.

If you reverse the 21 to a 12, then you are only slightly higher than my usual 11 mpg.

My '17 2500 Tradesman CCLB 6.4 4X4 6spd with CAI, PC, MF and 4.10's gets 11 pretty much always. Except when it gets 9, but thats just me reversing my age from 61 to 16 and driving it like I stole it. And Honey Badger don't care!
