so...I have 20" Rock Star wheels with Toyo Open Country M/T 35" x 12.5" and I have had them balanced a couple of times...without success. The shop told me that it's pretty much impossible to properly balance this big of a wheel. I find that very hard to believe. Any help or truth to this?

My wheels shake so much my truck vibrates at highway speeds and it's driving me nutz. What can I do? Anything? Any solution?

I live in Windsor, Ontario...I'm close to Detroit, MI if there's a shop there that could do the balancing properly.

Jason's right, get them Road Force balanced. Seen lots of cases where guys couldn't get tires to balance properly with multiple tries, get them road force balanced and they're perfect. The shop that told you a 35x12.5 is too big to properly balanced are clueless, I know people running 40's that are balanced fine. The only problem would be the shop not having good enough equipment.

The dealer put my 35's on and balanced them. Smooth as butter! I've also already rotated them and no change in ride quality

I'm assuming ROAD FORCE BALANCE is a machine? Do they balance with weights or inside the tire with glass bead? TIA

Have to agree with all of the above. If the shop is telling you they are too big, the shop is inept. I had 35x12.50 Nitto Trail Grapplers on my Wrangler and a good shop with proper equipment can balance the super aggressive oversized tires. Road Force is a great way to go.

BUT --- it is not the ONLY way. When you start getting up into 35" and bigger, a dynamic balance solution isn't a bad idea. You may also want to do a little research on a "bead ballance". The real benefit is that the beads constantly adjust for tire ware and road conditions. This is something I've not yet personally tried, but the idea and cost benefit are intriguing enough that I think I may go this route for my next oversize application. Jinx:

Machine. Places pressure from a roller on the tire tread during spin process (simulating the force of the road against the tire,,,, "Road Force",,,)

External / ~Regular~ tire weights used to balance

My dealership road-force balanced the two new tires I bought from them, and they couldn't get it right even after 3 times. I only drove the truck about 3k miles in the past 9 months, but every time it drove me nuts. The shaking at 70 mph made me so mad. This didn't happen before they put the new tires on.

Anyway, I just got new wheels and tires from somewhere else, and guess what...no more issues. The ride is perfect now. ****** me off that they couldn't do this right the first time. Or the second, or the third. So yeah, what others have said. Your shop is doing it wrong.

I know plenty of people where I live running 37"+ from a 16" to a 22" wheels and they ride perfect. The shop you had put em' together doesn't know what they are doing and as others stated a Road Force Balance should and I believe will solve your problem. I went through this some time ago and got a Road Force Balance and they were good to go. I recently got new tires and I feel a shimmy at certain speeds so I plan to go this weekend to get them re-balanced and hopefully they will be good. I also plan to get a steering stabilizer - maybe dual for the front end to help out as well.

If you're looking at balancing beads, look up "counteract" at Cerka. They are a trailer place in Milton ON. For trailer parts they have the best prices "North of the border" but they also sell these beads for non-trailer usage.

I've personally never used the beads, but some swear by them, while others say it's snake oil.

as an update guys. I went to a place with Road Balance machine. They wanted $200-$300 to balance my wheels...but...they said it wouldn't help. My front tires are wearing strangely and the lugs are all at different levels causing my wheel shake. The back tires were smooth..so they just put the back on the front and vice versa and now I seem good to go. Wheels were pretty balanced according to the machine..but 59lbs of road force with those front tires.

I will NOT be buying Toyo anything again.

I just got new 275/60R20 Cooper AT3's and the shop used bead balancing. At first, one of the bags didn't break and caused a vibration but now the ride is smooth and sweet!
