OK I went to empty my catch can today and it was so tight that I had to take it off, put it in a vise and use a pipe wrench to loosen it. I only put it on there hand tight, at least I thought.

How tight are you guys tightening yours???

I hand tighten mine to a "snug" fit and then turn it about 1/8 more. Its a bit tight coming off but never had an issue with the dozen times I have taken it off. Its more of a feel thing if you ask me.

Mines never tight comming off ?

Mine is an elite engineering occ on the truck , it has an O-ring . I did put a bit of anti-sieize on the O-ring and threads . I also just finger tighten it and put a black line on it so I know where to stop once seated .

I'll be dumping the wife's Billet Technologies OCC tomorrow on her 16 Challenger RT Plus.
Pretty sure it has an O-ring as well , I've only dumped hers once so far , it came off easily then ...

Was the engine hot? I've found my BT Catch Can is next to impossible to unscrew when the engine is hot, especially in the summer...

My BT catch can is hand tight and i've never had a problem taking it off, hot or cold. It doesn't need to be near as tight as, say, your oil filter.

I changed my oil last weekend and dumbed my catch can, it was a little less than 1/2 full with 4600 miles. I had to use my Ford fuel filter wrench to get it loose.

That sounds like you tighten it too tight to me. I can loosen mine with my hands.

Not much to dump . 1000 miles since I last dumped it .

I was able to easily remove it by hand , but like I mentioned before I put a bit of anti-sieize on the threads to prevent it from being difficult, I also only tighten it with finger tips .

Anti-seize, good idea. I'll be putting some on mine this weekend. :favorites13:

I typically dump mine once between each oil change and at the time of the oil change.

My first dump :naughty:
2385.3 miles
823 miles of towing
Almost 2/3 full

Looks like I'll be checking and emptying my can every 3k miles.

Same thing I was thinking. I have on my 335i so already knew the importance of having one. Wish I would have ordered and installed it when I first took delivery of my truck from the dealer. However, I'm sure under 800 miles without one wouldn't hurt too bad.

You seem very lucky. Guess mine is pretty bad due to towing through the mountains a few times.

The amount of fluid one gets in their OCC is determined by many factors .

1) the driving style of the individual (#1)

2) the oil viscosity that's used

3) the age & efficiency of the P.C.V.

4) the season ...ie .. winter / summer

People say agresive driving promotes more vented oil in the occ ... I understand why , I do get it , but I'm a lazy driver / grandpaw type @ only 45years old . I seem to get more than most others ?

I have removed , inspected and cleaned my P.C.V.

I've had the same results in my occ prior to removal and cleaning / Reinstallation ?

I'll be replacing my PCV ( Positive Crankcase Vent ) soon ...

I guess we will see if the new PCV .makes a difference.

I doubt it ... it's a terribly simple device .

I typically get approximately 9.0 oz per oci " Oil Change Intervale "

Hope this helps!
