Mr roboto man... I remembered the second he posted it and I'm not a Styx fan. Too much technology, lol.

In nor cal suburbia in the 80's the only thing we new about Asia was to be Asian was to be Japanese thanks to two songs and a movie. Mr roboto, turning Japanese, and Gung Ho., and that's it. These guys ruined all of the good work of Bruce Lee in the 70's and 60's. No other Asian country had any spot in Americana at least in this neck of the woods. So our friend must have lived through the 80's and was poking fun at you bringing up Japanese Brian. :)

Eh?

Is that Canuck-speak? Is the wildfire smoke getting to you guys?

P.S. I can see it here in central Minnesota today, but I see it's really bad just north of the border lines.
Japanese for thank you very much ;)

It is horrible here in Ontario - smells like a really bad campfire and there's an ominous orange glow in the sky, like apocalyptic...

The wildfires are in Quebec I am told? Where I am the sky was a bit orange this morning but clear and blue by midday. And no smell at all.

Well, you're in a cultured region. Me, not so much.

I went out to get the mail and the smoke has backed up enough over us that I can not only see it but now taste and smell it, just like the wonderful summer where @Wild one sent us smoke daily for a month from Alberta.

:yucky:For many of us with Japanese vehicles and other engines (Yanmar in my tractor, or Kubota, etc.), they all use the same filter size. The Japanese are a very uniform culture this way.
….
Except when they are not.

Wife’s Toyota has a stoopid cartridge in a plastic-capped receptacle….which fractured and dumped all the oil after only one year…. and with a non-functioning and useless “drain” …. that makes a MESS each/every time the filter is changed.

An ordinary spin-on filter would be SO MUCH better.

The “lake” video is ridiculous, pointless, unscientific, over-acted, Mutt-and-Jeff and proves nothing.

Everyone who has dos japanesium plastic filter housing always go with a stainless upgrade, like 15 bucks.

Actually bypass is solid so it is a good set up once you lose the plastic. Many things fail or mis produced with canister filters, these don't have those issues.

Just an FYI regarding the STP Max filters. I was at AZ today, and grabbed a 10060 off the shelf. It was not a PGI. It had a baseplate and ADBV that looked like a First Brands monstrosity. Very much like the Drives FRAM was putting out at AAP, or so many of the AC Delcos of the last few years. I’ll see if I can’t post a pic. These filters I would not consider to be on par with PGI. At all.

Cartridge filters are a double-edged sword. While they present their own problems, they also give you an opportunity to inspect the media. Spin-ons don’t do this. With cartridges, you get to essentially disassemble and inspect the entire filter apparatus before use. If you’ve ever cut open a used spin-on and found rust, or a loose metal tab or chad from machining, you can appreciate how nice it is to look at *everything* before use.

The filter covers will break if they are repeatedly overtightened. If you are having oil messes draining the filter and cover during an oil change, I’ve used several solutions over the years. Some PGI filters will ship with a screw-in drain that is much better than the push-in. The included photo is of a Service Champ 9608. I added a short piece of tubing to one. Also, for the princely sum of $12, you can buy a nice brass fitting with a hose that makes the process very easy. I got mine on Amazon.

Let us know what you find. I used AI a lot in my work on this because companies have clammed up bigly.

BTW, First Brands didn't make d*i*c*k. They were a holding company for a bunch of formerly independent companies that did, and they milked them dry.

Toyota? Mazda is slow to change, still canister. Yanmar and Kubota also.

For many of us with Japanese vehicles and other engines (Yanmar in my tractor, or Kubota, etc.), they all use the same filter size. The Japanese are a very uniform culture this way.

The Fram Oil Filter size was 6607. The equivalent PGI all synthetic medial oil filter is STP Maximum Performance Oil Filter S6607ML. Again, AutoZone has the exclusive contract for these.

I decided to post here instead of the "Other Vehicles" Thread so you more members see it, as this is a supply crisis.

Here is the link --->

EDIT: these PGI-made STP-branded synthetic filters state efficiency of "99.5% @ 25 microns" and advertise 20,000 mile contaminant holding capacity, without referencing any measurement standard.

In any case, their advertised spec's aren't as efficient as Royal Purple or Fram Endurance. Best I got for what I see. I know Mike is fond of Purolator, but I'm taking a different path. I still have legacy inventory left anyway.
You just remeind me I need to find a oil filter I can use on the wife's Rav 4 or will I be stuck using Toyota unknow micron rated oil filters for its life?

Well news this evening said fires are going strong in northern Ontario, hazing the skies over Toronto to give it the stat of "worst air quality in the world" today.

The Carquest Premiums at AAP are advertised at 20 micron at 99.5%. Do you use 10W-30 in anything? If so, they are clearancing Pennzoil Platinum in that grade for $18.95 a jug. You get any Carquest filter with that for free through the 19th. I picked up two jugs and two $15 EP filters for $41.
