Hey guys! finally got to my ~1 year filter change interval. so this was a fram xg10060 purchased and installed last year 30-04-21 at 5478km (3k miles)
I changed it out with the oil this weekend at 33986km (21k miles) so that makes 28508km (17k miles) on the filter and almost 11 months.
this truck is my daily driver and weekend toy so it see all conditions from -30c to +40c. I also drive it like a hemi is supposed to be driven, I love to hear the exhaust and smoke civics at the red light! no towing this year but lots of hauling and offroading and a few casual drag strip runs during the summer.
honestly the filter is in great shape it could probably go 2 years easy but I will continue to change it every year until its out of warranty or I dont feel like it anymore lol

now for the goods

im not sure why the outer layer of fiber appears golden. the interior layer was like felt texture and thickness. the wire backing appears to be nylon wire. silicon adbv was perfect. no varnish or anything at all found in the filter or walls. when I cut my filters on my 06 hemi there was always chunks of carbon grit to be found in the filter
all in all very satisfied and I replaced with an xg2 but this one seems to have been fine. will do this again next year!

Thank you for posting!

This must be the new Fram Ultra design with two layers of filtering media - coarser outer and finer inner.

Much ado was made of removing wire screen backing from the outer layer, and I'm surprised to see a mesh screen in between the media layers. Doesn't look like any delamination occurred, and that's a lot of miles on the filter.

What oil was used? It looks sludgy.

I've used WIX XP in several Hemi 5.7 and 6.4 vehicles as has my Son for several years. I'm out of WIX stock now and was going to go with Amsoil. Now Amsoil is recommending WIX due to concerns with their filters for the Hemi. I'm leaning toward the 500 RP based on Hemimann's recommendation for my 6.4 but concerned with his oil pressure readings once warmed up. My 6.4 makes several 500 mile trips to KY each year most always towing a trailer, with once a year a near maxxed out gooseneck loaded with my tractor and implements during late August. I maintain a 5000 mile OCI since new. Any thoughts? Why did Amsoil recommend the Wix? Thx

fca made a dummy move (say it's not so?) and made oil filters smaller even though the previous years larger filter still fit. Now, I doubt only amsoil has the issue, but they recognize there is an issue and doesnt recommend their filter. Somewhere between 2012 and 2014 they went small, I forget the year someone help me out. But, if you look at the filter for the 2010 ram, that will fit any 4 gen, and will be the larger filter that had no issues with any codes, and the amsoil ea is as good as it gets. Someone have that ea number fo the larger filter? The rp clone of that filter is 20-820.

Nothing wrong with your memory. Wish I could recall half as much crap as you.

I know this is a dumb question, but i've never actually compared the RP 500 to the RP 820 filter, which is actually the larger filter as far as internal media goes.

20-820

Search my name in oil filter thread. I calculated and listed relative filtration media surface area for all of these.

Thanks Hemimann, the info is muchly appreciated. To tell you the truth,i've never even spotted the 500 on my local speed shops shelves,so had never compared their sizes. They probably have the 500,i've just never looked for it,blind in 1 eye and can't see out the other some days, lol

For the 6.4 I really like the 20-500. You can see much needed clearance from the sides over the 20-820 thanks to hemimanns work. I don't have any opinion which is better on the 5.7, I just use the 20-820, and I'm comfortable with it.

This is more for the cars Mike. They run a vertical filter with all kinds of room around the filter.Compared to the angle and where the filter sits on the trucks, the cars are far superior, they are actually easy to do an oil change on,lol.I've been running the 20-820 on the 300C ,but it's getting due for an oil change, and i wondered if the 20-500 might be a bigger filter as far as internal media goes.I'm glad it's not,as i have a few of the 20-820's laying around, lol

New here. Got a 2016 1500 5.7. What’s the best oil filter these days? I already decided on mobile 1 or royal purple for oil. Anyone used the mobile 1 made for trucks?

9 minute mark dudes, and engine killing glue chunk where the oil flow would take it into the engine, wtf?

napa platinum versus wix xp, are they different. Dudes refers to his filters as girls, lol. Notice the spring, but also how the wix xp is so short, no bypass. Notice pleats as well, not the same.
