Product Defect Alert!!!!!!!!!

Wix xp oil filter I was putting on was wobbling as I spun it on, the Nut portion of the oil filter was not straight Inline with the rest of the oil filter housing. Making it wobble as I spun it on, resulting in one side of the seal meeting the engine block first as I tightened it down. This defect resulted in a bad seal; took it off and replaced it with another new Wix xp oil filter I had and it had the same defect. So, if your running this oil filter or have one you intend to use this is something to be looking for. I always do a visual inspection on all my oil filters before I put them on and this was something I could not see until I was spinning it on.

Just Run RP filters, as shown many times it has thicker media then the wix xp but has great flow!

Agree. As stated on this forum many times, using one of the top tier filters like RP is money spent smart.

Both filters were 57045XP
Both filters had 65809 25211 serial numbers.
Looks like they both were from the same batch.

I was in a pinch for an oil filter so I went with the tried and true M1-113A EP. Spun on flat and snug. Looking at the Purolator Boss for my new filter selection.

Interested to see what you're results are with the boss filter. I've got a couple on the shelf, I thought my engine made more noise at startup with the boss filter. I just quit using them and went to FU or Amsoil filters.

Looking at changing the oil in my 03 5.7 235k miles. Want to try RL. Would you suggest a viscosity blend? What would be smart

This is JMO, but if you're the original owner and that motor is all original I wouldn't vary too much from what you've been doing, it looks like whatever you're doing is working. Viscosity wise I'd use a 5/30 but at this point unless you've been running a synthetic before I'd be causious about changing to synthetic now. If and I say if you want to change to synthetic now I'd use a can of Amsoil engine flush first. At this point I'd be more afraid of creating more problems by changeing to redline, you might be better off with M1 high mileage. JMO. I recall that you said you also have an 18 so if you're using the 03 as a test dummy just to see what happens id do the Amsoil engine flush and then redline 5/30. Please keep us posted on what you do and you're results.

Good point. Yes bought new. Have been using RP synthetic 10-40 for most of its life. Recently tried Amsoil SS 10-40. Small drop in PSI but thermal temp came down. Did notice mild increase in lifter noise when at full op temp. Added a can of Liqui Molly, went a way. I am testing the top tier oils, so can't realy cause a problem. But your point on miles versus switching oils is a caution. Thinking RL viscosity blend. Like 2 Qt 10-40 5 qt 5-20?

For the 5.7 I like redline 5w30, for the 6.4 I like 5w40 redline. I don't see a lot of reason to blend redlines, some guys are chasing moly or zinc levels but the two I just posted are really stout base oils and high additives as well. Some guys in the cold states want what 0w40 redline has to offer in the cold, but find that noiser then 10w40 redline for the summer. Kyle's experience comes to mind, but 5w40 seams to be the best of all worlds for the 6.4. As for the 5.7 they should just rename 5w30 redline as hemi honey, it will smooth out any noise you are having and have no mds issues.

I am creeping up to my next oil change and was looking to try the RP 10-48 but I can't seem to get one here for less than $45.00, yes you read that right, so I might give the Fram Ultra XG10060 a shot as I can get them for $15.99 at my local Canadian Tire. I believe it was in the top three in testing at the beginning of this thread. Anyone here using one and happy with them? I have avoided using Fram and their "orange can of death" most of my life so I am a little concerned.
