I watched the filter video that the ranking chart was based upon. The pressures and condition used to test those filters will mostly never be seen in a daily driver engine.

If you can believe AI, some of the worst ranking filters shown will be superior filters in normal use. I spend a good bit of time working with AI on filters last night. Blend or pure synthetic with decent particle ratings are more than enough, changed on a normal regular basis, unless you have extremely high pressure oil pumps with an extremely high volume of oil passing through it.

Of course, AI could be full of it.

we arent saying that vid was AI right? just checking don't want to confuse anyone. It may be designed to be harder on the filter then in an engine, but imo that is a good way to test it. so long as they test all filters equally, that is a good place to start.

I never questioned the validity of the video. I just question if a normal engine will ever see the pressures and volumes they used to get their results.


I questioned AI in detail about the Fram Tough Guard blend filter flow rate, media, construction. Surprisingly, it knew everything about the filter and its flow rates for different brands and weights of oil, my engine, oil filter housing and cooler, lack of an anti-drain back valve, variable oil pump working pressures and volumes, ect....

AI was also versed on the camshafts and the oiling of them.

AI tells me that in my truck, with the temperatures we get here, the PUP 5w30 is a very good oil for added protection for how and where I drive, long pulls up mountains, ect.. and normal driving.

The PUP 5W30 lower end viscosity will never be a problem being too thin or thick, the pressures and oil volume of the pump will never cause high back pressure on even the TG Fram filters, which in the test the numbers shown were off the chart. The TG micron ratings are very good, but not restrictive at the higher oil flow ratings of the variable oil pump my truck has.

The Endurance was rated as longer lasting, especially with it's non ability to absorb water like a full paper or blend paper element would, but in normal driving with no water intrusion into the oil, this wouldn't be a problem.

That's what AI says. What are others opinion on this? Are we looking at test results that will never apply to how our vehicles will actually operate, all in the name of more views?
