So I just did my RAM's first oil change. Switched to Red Line 5W20 and Royal Purple Filter. I'm sure we all feel this way after an oil change, but it seems SO MUCH SMOOTHER. Even after only having 3k miles I swear the Hemi tick is gone...what little bit I did have I can almost not even notice anymore; must all be placebo.

Anyway.

So I want to say I'm more curious what your oil pressure and temperature is on Red Line, but I'm also curious about the others running different oils what they're running as well. I guess I'm mainly trying to see if we're all running about the same oil pressures and temperatures. Probably wouldn't be asking if I took a note on what I was running before this first oil change which would have been a cool comparison... Looks to me I'm right where I should be for it all, but that's just from my experience and knowledge.

59°F Outside

IDLE BEFORE LEAVING DRIVEWAY (was sitting cold for 24 hours):
Time : RPM : PSI : Oil Temperature
2254 : 1K : 59: <122°
2303 : 500 : 52: 123°
2307 : 500 : 47: 154°

Driving in town: 2K RPM was 55 PSI

Idle at stop light: 500 RPM was 34 PSI at 190°

WOT uphill: 6K RPM was 60 PSI

After the 18 minute drive; back home in driveway: 500 RPM was 30 PSI at 210°

Looks similar to my readings using a MOPAR filter, and dealership (Quaker State) 5W-20. Not to burst your bubble - I am always interested in learning more about performance products.

Your idle following your trip looks about 5 psi lower than my resting temp. Run temp pretty close.

I agree that my vehicle feels better with fresh oil for first 2,500 miles. Change religiously every 5k.

Hi Andrew

I am driving a 2018 RAM 1500 , which i purchased a couple of weeks ago. Actually i have less than 1k miles on the clock.
On hot idle, aftter 15 miles on the highway, i got a minimum of 32 PSI . I will change the oil about 1k to Amsoil 5w30 and will report the values after that.

I'll report my oil pressure values tomorrow morning.

I am running redline 5w-30 with a royal purple filter. I know for a fact mine are a little higher.

i would say you are where you should be. temp is really a variable. my truck is a 14 with 71k miles on it. once warmed up it ranges from around 190 to max of 221 when pushed. spends most time 190 to 195. idont drive any highway and drive hills and varying terrain. i think the lowest ive seen my oil pressure is around 41psi. those with low psi be very careful idling a lot. if tuned get tuner to bump up low idle to get pressure up.

With temps in the 70s I see a PSI of 57 when I first start up in the morning.

Driving at operating temp 53 PSI.

Warm idle is about 44.

My temps range from 205 to 215 on normal driving.

its a short sample size but to me i would be concerned with the oil pressure being down to 30. i have never seen my truck in the 30s and it looks like most above have not. hopefully you dont idle a lot

Well my idle was fine until after the 13 min idle and 18 min trip when I came back and it sat is when it went down to the 30.

“Low oil pressure at idle only, will most often mean that the engine is low on oil.” I put 7qts in and it’s reading on the dipstick so not sure how it could need more than 7 if it was actually low... Also read oil filters can effect pressure. And this is a more moly oil.

I idle up to 20 minutes on cold start but then once I’m going I never usually idle much. Almost wondering if I should try more oil but like I said with 7 full quarts in that doesn’t make sense when the engine only takes like 6.something

Dipstick says half when cold and after warm drive then sit a few minutes it shows 1/2 to 3/4. Figured a full 7 quarts woulda taken it to top. Never fell below 33 PSI at idle yesterday. Maybe mines always been like this just didn’t check. Def feel like this new oil and filter is reason for it, but honestly, why would one need 50+ PSI at idle anyway? Doesn’t even make sense. Thinking they designed it to idle lower at idle because you don’t need a higher pressure when vehicle isn’t doing anything at idle.

Hi
As mentioned, i changed my oil at 2100km from factory fill to Amsoil 5W30 now. I used the Mopar oil filter.
The hot idle oil pressure has increased now to 38 PSI at 212F ,with the transmition in drive. When you check the oil pressure in neutral you will notice a further increas.
