Oil ???

Okay Guys - Here's my maiden post. Just picked up my brandy new 2015 Ram 1500 yesterday . Deep Cherry Red/4x4/Reg Cab/5.7 Hemi. The dealer told me it comes with a synthetic blend on the oil. I've always been a conventional oil guy but don't have an aversion to synthetics. As I look in my OM it says nothing about synthetics under Engine Oil. It just calls for 5w-20 for oil usage. Question 1 - Does it really come with a synthetic blend? And 2 - Can I still use conventional oil if I want to? Thanks in advance for any help.

Dealer doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

Factory fill is Pennzoil conventional, and changing to synth is purely preference.

If I was going to run a conventional oil, Penzoil is the only one I would run except perhaps Shaeffers which is harder to find and expensive. It is my opinion after a lot of research and reading a lot of used oil analysis's that the Hemi benefits from having a good moly level. Many disagree, and I'm cool with that, but I would research it. Start hear.

A single molecule of Moly contains two sulfur atoms and one molybdenum atom. Sulfur alone is one of the best molecules for lubricity, ask any diesel mechanic alive. Add the Moly to it and and it is like supercharging the sulfur molecules. I want this stuff in my oil, especially if I have a truck with the propensity to have lifter ticks and dry metal-metal start ups. Almost every oil has this, but some don't, PQIA is the best place to see which oil has what and what amounts. The only reason that I can think of why some companies remove moly or don't use it is cost and not widespread public knowledge of the molecule like zinc has. Another reason for running Moly is the gov't has been lowering allowable zinc levels as well, so modern oils have much less zinc then older oils. It is good for pollution and perhaps your catalytic convertor to have low zinc levels, but it is horrible for your engine. I could go on and on, ask anyone here

They say 90% of engine wear happens at startup, zinc washes down with the oil, the moly does not without leaving molecules behind to stick to metal.. Over time Moly seeps in protecting your stuff.

I can't recommend an Moly additives at this time, most are not the same chemistry as the Moly you find in your oil.
