So I sold my s&b intake and made my own. It's not much to look at. I am a perfectionist wich is a ****** downfall because I feel it's a hack job but I am not finished with it yet. I am still going to put a shield around it but not like the s&b had I was honestly disappointed with the s&b. This one does function just fine. But I guess it's the job I did that kinda pissed me off.

What do you expect to gain with that intake over a S&B? The ONLY thing you will gain is intake temperature.

Im not sure what you were expecting with the S&B. No intake by itself will give ground breaking results. You need supporting mods to see actual gains. I personally say go for an intake after a tuner, LT headers, and a PTB but some people will disagree with that.

Honestly, that thing is not going to provide you with better results than a factory intake. You are pulling in hotter air. If you werent happy with the S&B, you should try the Vararam. It will offer slightly better performance over the S&B but again, you wont see the gains without supporting mods. If you want seat of the pants performance, get a DS tuner w/ a custom tune (HemiFever/Jay Greene).

Well first I wasn't finished I have headers done and the guy I'm going to get the tune done at was on holidays. he is back now I will be getting it dyno tuned. But this is what I ended upnwith. I did not like the s&b. Personal preference I guess. anyway all I did was remove a bit of turbulence in the intake pipe good enough for me. it won't upload the picture not sure why. I will try later but don't worry it's getting cold air now.

Honestly, there is no chance that intake is better than the S&B. Matter of fact, I bet its worse than stock.

Why not run another 90 down instead of the.filter and Add a filter with a scoop under the rad or behind the bumper.

Been there, done that! several times...

Lucky to pick up a 10th of a second over a quarter mile
(track tested for well over 300 passes on several intake systems over 4 years)

Dual 4" feeder tubes to a Volant CAI

One 4" tube ran to the opening in the underside of the Volant air box
The other tube ran to the stock air box fender opening. (over double the size of the throttle body)

the Volant powercore filter is so efficient I measured no difference
whether the filter was installed or no filter at all for several passes.

You're totally wasting your time (and money) if you don't also have catless LT headers ;)

IMHO, The only way to Ram more air into the intake
that will make a significant measurable difference is forced induction...

all good guys its staying the way it is. gains are so minimal on any intake unless forced into the engine. later down the road it might get a cam and a supercharger only time will tell. like i said i didn't care for the s and b. friend . im happy with just getting rid of the accordion tube . i also never said it was better then the s and b

I disagree with saying you're lucky to get a 10th.

I have vararam intake with 5 passes. 15.0 to 14.6 .

I felt a Difference thru out the power band going from stock to vararam.

I think he was saying that running tubes to the front bumper for "ram air" will not net you anything really over his Volant intake. Its already been proven that the Vararam will provide slightly better results over the likes of the Volant and S&B.

IMO, that intake will probably perform worse than stock. All you are doing is increasing intake temperatures which in turn will make the PCM pull timing for the hotter air and decrease performance. Just my $.02 though.

You sold the S&B and created a DIY WAI (Warm air intake). In hot months that will decrease performance off the line. I'm no S&B fan-boy and I understand your 'each to their own' opinion, this is mine.

Much better than your WAI. You can also do the airbox mod to allow a bit more airflow for just a few dollars. Plenty of DIY pictures floating around. Most run a 3" or 4" tube from the bottom of the airbox down to the foglight area. Couple it with a quality aftermarket drop in filter and its pretty much just as good as the S&B or Volant.

When you say "shield", there leaves a lot to be desired. When I hear that term being used, I think of a K&N "shield" intake which is just as bad as having an open air intake like your picture in the OP.

every vehicle responds differently to different intakes.. I have seen a Volant on a 02 chevy make 26hp at the wheels... "I was ******* amazed" as far as the rams go.. I am sure the Volant is great and if it was bolted up to massive ptb it would prolly make some nice gains I'm with black ram on this... but hey.. grats on the DIY .. put up some pics once u get all the tubing installed, I wanna see it.

The one that was installed on my truck when I bought it was horrible.

Now I have a Spectre and happy with. Not really concerned if I gained anything. I just wanted to get rid of the crappy one that was on there.
