When I bought PUP, I always bought it online from Wally World. They don't stock in store, fyi.

I'm OK with VR&P ONLY with short OCI's by mileage, I should have said, per what @ramffml is saying above.

My Walmart had PUP 5W-20 and a spot for 5W-30, but none in stock. R&P was same price, $29.97 per 5 qt. jug

Oh, you meant now - yeah for now, I'd run the R&P for <<5k OCI's. And change filter inbetween.
Yeah, gonna do RedLine, just was short. I probably could wait another 1k miles, but didn't want to.

I've heard good things about R&P though. I do want to use it no more than 5k miles, with 1 or 2 filter changes during the cycle.

It will be interesting to see the oil pressure readings with the R&P. Stay tuned.......

Don't make a MISTAKE - go PUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with added Lubegard
As most of you know, I did a cam/lifter (+ more) job on my Hemi about 6500 miles ago.

I am up to my 5k interval with the RedLine 5W-30.

Was curious, that since I have 207k miles on my bottom end, should I run Valvoline R&P to help clean up the bottom end since I left my pistons, rings, and bearings alone when I did my cam job?

Thoughts on this????

Btw, I love the RedLine oil, and will use it as much as I can from here out. I am a bit short at the moment, and don't want to stretch my OCI too much.

Valvoline Restore & Protect (R&P) and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum (PUP) are top-tier, API SP-rated full synthetic oils with superior cleaning capabilities, but they target different engine needs. Restore & Protect is specialized to actively clean piston deposits and reduce oil consumption (blowby) in older or neglected engines, while Pennzoil Ultra Platinum focuses on preventing sludge and providing superior overall engine longevity using natural gas technology.

Oh, I don't plan on using the R&P long-term, only to clean anything I didn't get to on the bottom end. Maybe 1 or 2 5k uses, then back to RedLine.

For me, If I still had my HEMI powered RAM, you betcha I'd be using Red Line 5w/30 or HPL 5w/30 ... it wasn't a cost factor for me when considering what folks here in the RAMforum have posted and what I've learned, as an possible mitigation of cam/lifter failure on a poorly designed engine by the manufacturer having to meet certain EPA rules.

I currently own a truck that has a GDI engine design that needs an oil that is "engineered" for such engine.

No, matter the cost for the oil, I could still use Red Line 5w/30, however, it's easier for me to go to the local Walmart and grab the VALVOLINE Restore and Protect 5w/30 off the shelf and not having to depend upon UPS/FED UP to make a delivery.

I can remote start this truck on a cold/hot day and let the cabin reach a comfortable temp without having to stress over the possibility of chewing up the cam/lifters ... just saying.

Fwiw, my older sibling's 2012 @ just ~65,000 miles has the ticky at start up and quiets down some ... he drives it like Paw Paw Skibblebanks ... time will tell?

... oh, yeh ... I could've bought a brand new RAM, but, Stellantis doesn't offer a regular cab short bed pick up anymore and the four-door version RAM didn't/doesn't meet my needs.

Whenever the Dakota makes its debut, I'll take a hard look at it.

Hammer down and happy motoring to all.

Absolutely, spot on. I do intend to use RedLine pretty much exclusively, was mainly curious about cleaning the bottom end on mine. It might not even be bad, but it does have 207k on it now, and it sat for several months before I got up off my procrastinating a$$ and finished my cam job.

I still have to do my transmission service and install that awesome PPE pan you sent my way J, along with Jesse's 8HP bypass and cap.

What engine is in your current truck, if you don't mind sharing.

I've got a couple of GDI SUV's now.

Valvoline recommends 4 changes for optimum cleaning. I've seen quite a few UOA's with R&P that are quite impressive with wear numbers that rival some of the best oils. I'm running it in my kids older Honda Civics and just picked up some for the wife's Highlander.

These are the two engines from Valvoline's 500k test of conventional vs synthetic motor oil. This time they ran them for two changes with R&P. The rings no longer sticking is pretty interesting.
