Option Frustration

I've been looking for a 2015 Sport CC for a while now. Every time I find one that looks promising I check the window sticker and it has every option I want except ONE.......the 3.92 Rear Axle Ratio! I guess I don't understand why RAM doesn't just make this option standard. Even if you don't tow, why wouldn't you rather have the 3.92 just in case? I'm amazed at how many fully loaded Sports I find with literally every option that could be added to the truck but it has the 3.21 on it. It's not like it adds hundreds to the price, it's a $50 option.

I realize I could order a 2016 with every option I want and stop complaining but I would really like to take advantage of the deals on the 2015.

I had the same issue and ended up giving up a few things to get one with the 3.92. Didn't get the sport hood or navigation. Neither a huge loss for me although I do like the look of the sport hood even though it's non functional. I guess if the sport hood isn't even standard I'm not surprised something like 3.92 gears isn't either.

Yeah, I'm not quite at the stage to give up options yet but it may come to that. I'm driving a fully loaded Tahoe LTZ now and I don't want to go backwards on available options. Just didn't think the axle ratio would be the challenge.

Are you planning on towing heavy. Did you drive the 3.21? I'm plenty happy with my 3.21 8 speed. I came from a 08 Z71 5.3 3.73 and this hemi out pulls and runs it hands down. If you have a 5.3 in your Chevy the 3.21 8 speed will run all over it.

I had the same problem and ended up with a 3.21 and my truck has everything else I wanted. I knew you could order one but did not want to wait and many people on both boards that ordered seemed to have some delivery issues. I don't tow much but those that do say it is fine with the 8 speed plus better gas mileage. I was resolved to believe that the only 3.92 sports had to be ordered but there are are some but the difficultly is matching everything else. Good luck!

I bought my Ignition Orange Sport thinking it had 3.92s as I read several articles online stating all of them would. Nope 3.21s as do several other members on here. I'm not hating though. Does what I need just fine.

being approximately 700lbs lighter than the cc I find my 3:21's more than adequate, my Sport is exactly how I wanted her thankfully.

Why are you so stuck on the 3:92? Are you gonna be hanging out at the strip all the time? There is a reason they don't come standard. Most people drive on the highway and want decent MPG.

A few reasons. First, if I'm going to spend $40k plus on a truck, I want it to be as loaded up as possible. Second, I don't ever want to be limited on towing weight. Piece of mind, really. And finally, after spending a month on this forum, the most common regret I read from 1500 owners is NOT getting the 3.92 given the chance.

I do like the idea of hanging out at the strip, though! Lol.

You do realize when you not towing it's going to be down side of the truck as you're going to be pulling more RPMs on the highway and getting lower MPG. I don't see how getting "another option on the list" just to say you have it will be beneficial to somebody that tows every once in a while. If you don't want to be limited on towing, why are you getting a 1500?

The difference is so negligible that it's a non-issue. The smile from launching the truck with 3.92's far outweighs the pittance it costs you in fuel over the 3.21s. Also 3.92's are actually the more fuel efficient gear when city-driving because the engine doesn't have to work as hard to get the truck moving. Further to that, my 3.92 truck doesn't downshift when coming into a slight grade on the highway AND I stay in "eco" longer than you too. So why would I NOT get an option on my truck that adds towing capacity, wakes the truck up tremendously, and likely only adds to my resale, and doesn't cost me any more than the like $100 it costs as an option? I agree with the OP, trucks should be standard 3.92 and optional 3.21.

I get 20-22 mpg normally with my 3.92s at 80mph, and 17mpg pulling a 6,000lb trailer/corvette combo at 80mph.
