I realized my 6.4 takes a special oil. The 0w40. My 1st 2500 and only had it for about a week now. If I cant find any local then I'll be forced to.buy from dealer or order online. If I order online, what about amsoil? Their 0w40 signature line oil. Good up to 15k to 25k miles. I wouldn't go that long with out changing it. But has anyone else used amsoil and their filter? How long did you wait until to change it? Use the factory oil life monitor?

I run it in my 2500 6.4 and I change it every 8,000 miles because I choose to. I works great and I have not had any issues with it. I am a preferred member so I get a better price on it. I run their filter also, and it’s one of the better ones on the market.

last 3 service advisors i've spoken to (2 dodge dealers and a ford dealer) have all said OLM aren't dependable and to go by the manual.

I also run Pennzoil ultra platinum/SRT but I use the K&N oil filter. I ordered two cases of oil from Amazon for the same cost as havingy oil changed once. I ordered three Mopar filters from Rock Auto but they sent me the wrong ones. Went down to the auto zone and picked up the K&N for 14 bucks.

Amsoil SS is a fantastic oil, only down side is price and availability. If you go to the dealership and buy PUP 0w40 ask if they will match their online price from Factorymoparparts.com? I just did that and got $8.23 per quart:)
Only down side to PUP has a cSt drops from 13.7 to low 11’s after about 4K Miles. So the oil has thinned out quite a bit.

There's a amsoil dealer here local that quote me 88.00 bucks with 7 qt of their SS and amsoil filter. Good deal? If I run those, should I push the interval longer?

With the filter that’s a reasonable price. I personally don’t extend my oil change intervals but some guys do. Amsoil definitely has a robust additive package that can go longer than other oils. It really come down to personal experience and preference. UOA’s are a good tool we use to see if an oil can be extended. I’m my opinion Oil is just plain Dirty after 4K.

That’s about what I pay per oil change through Amsoil with the Preferred Pricing

I had my oil changed at the dealership this week with their PUP and filter, the advisor told me the oil has gone up to $12 a quart and I said hell no. Won’t be doing that again. They had a coupon on line he gave me and brought it down to $93 total. I’ll do that all day so I don’t have to worry about getting rid of the oil or laying on my back.

I picked it up yesterday during lunch break. 88.00 out the door. View attachment 177594
That Amsoil is good stuff; if you could monitor engine noise, startup chatter or any change good or bad and let us know that would be awesome. Not sure if your interested in use oil analysis from Blackstone Laboratories but I’d love to see that report if you decide to do it.

Agreed. That's about $10 more than I spend for the PUP and mopar filter combo, but worth it probably if i could get it for that price.

I ran the amsoil and filter in my 2015 6.4 I had. I never had any bad knocking noise. I had the usual valve clatter when starting the truck after it had sat for an hour or so after it was already warm which was weird. It did that with the oem oil and the amsoil. The smoking at startup thing seemed to go away with the amsoil or it could have been the engine finally breaking in. I only did 2 oil changes on the the truck before trading in. 88 bucks for one oil change isn't bad since it's about once a year for some people. I change mine twice a year now with the Ford and works out to be around 80 bucks for the year for oil. So no real difference there.

I ran up to 20k on the 5/20 Amsoil SS on my 1/2 ton using oil analysis as a guide. I've done alot of oil analysis on Amsoil and its designed to go 20k as it just doesn't break down much. The SS line and there filters are designed for extended interval so you will save quite a bit if you go 1.5 to 2 times more than factory interval.

So, I'm wasting money if I changed it at 8k miles?
