Hey Dhubble - well I am not sure this is good news or bad news. I just traded my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Eco in for a brand new 2019 Honda Ridgeline AWD RTL-T gas model.
Seeing I do not pull or haul heavy payload I decided to go back to a gas truck - because all I need a truck for is very light duty anyway.
From what I have just been through with these emission error codes on the Eco Diesel I am too skeptical to hang onto this Dodge as the engine has some design flaws that I am not willing to gamble with. Mainly the intake soot build up issue from gases not getting hot enough to stay burned off and clean.
I certainly do not need emission error codes disabling me to limp to dealer each month. It is very sad, because I absolutely LOVED my Ram, it was the top of the line Laramie Longhorn with the leather cattle tan/black interior. When I would spin my head around and look into the back seat, I always expected Tammy Wynette or Dolly Parton to be sitting there! I am so bummed as the interior and ride was awesome. The truck is beautiful inside and out for a 2014 with the mileage I have on it.
The Honda loses from interior luxury standpoint compared to the Ram. However, I know the Honda will be a very dependable ride from a maintenance aspect. The Honda dealer gave me a decent trade in on the Ram as the KBB was 24K given my mileage of 101K and the dealer gave me 22K. So, I unloaded the truck.
I was given some awesome warranties with a 5-year maintenance plan (just walk in free for 5 years on oil changes, filters and such), lifetime unlimited warranty nontransferable for the powertrain with a $100 deductible and a 72-mo. bumper to bumper plus a warranty to replace high end rims should they ever get damaged/scratched etc. They discounted the vehicle from $39,945 to $35,500 and I got a sweet interest rate of 4% so I cannot complain from the finance end of things.
But still very sad over the whole ordeal! I just could not face the fact the Ram would be running me $$$ in repair bills moving forward with this flawed Eco Diesel. I see Ram is going to pull the Eco Diesel from manufacture next year - they want them off the market due to all the issues and litigation that is currently going on with FCA.
