OK, after finally getting the kid's truck registered & insured so I don't have to keep running him all over the place, the next day we got the brake rotors and pads changed on it as the truck sat for a year without being driven so everything rusted....yay!
Getting the calipers and brackets off weren't a problem. I actually think that the rotors and pads were original. The pads had about an 1/8 of an inch on each pad on all of them. The rotors were just badly rusted so they had to go...used a 8lbs sledge hammer to get them loose. New pads and rotors, greased the sliders up, and now it's like a brand new truck. Still have the little red BRAKE ! symbol on in the center of the dash, but the ABS is working.
Had it inspected and my mechanic friend said sometimes the sensor inside the master cylinder/reservoir sometimes sticks or doesn't read right. Changed some fluid out but the light hasn't gone off except for one time last night, but came back on.
All and all...good brakes now.
