Hi all,
I just bought a used 2017 1500 Sport and I have a thousand questions, but I'll start with just this one.

My truck was listed by the dealer as Brilliant Black Crystal Pearlcoat, which is what it looks like, however my driver's door sticker says "PNT: PW7" which is bright white, and I see no other stickers listing a paint code. Was my truck painted? If so, they did a good job.

I didn't know if I should attach the sticker to this post, so I didn't.
Any info appreciated.

Any CDJR dealer can use your VIN to determine the original paint color and the paint code.

Did you buy it from a CDJR dealer? If so, return to your salesperson to have then check the VIN.

Check the carfax report and see if the trucks ever been in an accident, and maybe had a replacement door swapped onto it.

Actually I found it at a...sigh....Ford dealer. But I'll see if my local CDJR dealer can help out. Thanks!

I checked Carfax before purchase and they claim no accidents, but good call, I wouldn't have thought about a replacement door. Of course it's possible the accident wasn't reported.
There was a suspicious lack of paperwork with the vehicle; no build sheet, no owner's manual, but it was too good a deal to pass up. 60k miles and looks garage kept. However, some electrical glitches are starting to show up. "Right front turn signal has a bulb out", but doesn't. Backup cam going on the fritz until the truck is restarted. Climate control not coming on if the truck is remote-started (factory remote start).
My first three Rams were all two-doors so this four-door is taking some getting used to.

Enter your VIN on the page in this link and select “get window sticker”. The window sticker will list the original color of your truck.

The front bulb out message is often one or both center, high mount brake light bulbs out.

If there are signs of water leakage inside the third brake light opening, make sure you replace the lamp assembly (has a new gasket) or use some gasket material.

Leaking third brake light lamp assemblies often blow one or both brake light bulbs, as the water drips on the hot bulb(s).

look under the fenders, fire wall under hood, under the dash and such, if the color is changed, chances are that you will see original color. I bet the door is replaced if the rest looks OK.

@mikeru thanks for the link, I have a window sticker now! This truck was a better deal than I originally thought. $10k in extras, nice!

However, the mystery deepens. The window sticker says "brilliant black crystal pearl" but the door sticker, with the "bright white" paint code has the same vin as the dash.
I had already checked in hard to paint areas and didn't find any white. I'm stumped.

@1999 White C5 Coupe , thanks for the info, I'll have a look. And really, they haven't figured out how to get that gasket to seal yet? I had the same issue on my 2014 Sport, so I know how to deal with it. I also cleaned the backup camera connector with electronic cleaner. I'll see if it worked in the morning.

If your vehicle went from white to black, you are going to see it somewhere. Under bed rails, fender wells, in between bed and cab; no one paints a ram such a drastic change in color that well to leave no white showing somewhere. I would take it as a misprint if everything else is correct.

Since the window sticker lists the paint as Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl, I'm assuming the truck hasn't been repainted. A misprint is really the only answer. I want to think that a mistake like this is rare but maybe not.
I also discovered that, although it was built in Michigan, it was a Canadian truck. Maybe they have different codes.

I have seen wrong VIN on a vehicle. That was a few years ago but it can happen. I've seen wrong gear ratios between front and back on a vehicle. One dealer I know had a vehicle come in with a wrong door on it.

The wrong VIN thing showed up when a warranty claim was refused because the build associated with that VIN didn't include the stuff being claimed on warranty.

The only thing differant between a Canadian and US truck are the daytime running lights, otherwise they're identical especially concerning paint codes. For all you know the truck could of been damaged prior to it ever getting to a dealers lot,and repaired before it ever got to a dealer, and the dealer was never informed, not uncommon.

Your avatar makes that thing look gorgeous. I doubt it's been repainted.

You're looking for PXR color code if you need some touch-up paint.

I am kinda biased towards that color too. I owned a PXR truck for many years.

But if you have a thousand more questions, keep asking. That's why we are here!

You don't need the dealer.

www.jeep.com/hostd/windowsticker/getWindowStickerPdf.do?vin=3C6RR7LT3HG523345

and replace the VIN with your own VIN. I know it says Jeep, but it works for any Stellantis product. I just grabbed a random VIN offline to demonstrate a 1500's return.

Thanks, I think it's pretty too!
Question 2: I've downloaded and have been reading the user manual but I'm having a problem with the climate control, and it may not even be a "problem". I became ill during the pandemic and without going into the boring details, I can't take temperatures over 67 degrees, 68 at most, otherwise I have a dangerous reaction and have run fevers up to 103.7. With my 2014 Sport I was able to set the dials for the coldest of cold before getting out and then, at the end of the work day, remote start the truck and cool it off before getting in. This doesn't seem to work with the digital touch screen controls, even if set to Auto. The AC won't turn on until I'm in the truck, and that's a problem.
I have the 8.4 screen but with version 3 (I think). The version that wants $600 to enable NAV. My understanding is that newer versions have Auto-On, or something of the sort.
Any ideas?

I think something might be messed up with your climate control. When I remote started my 2016 the AC would always be on full blast as I walked up to it. I left it on auto pretty much all the time.

I know at certain temperatures outside the auto AC behaves differently though. Maybe it's just not hot enough outside anymore for it to kick on right now?

Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the subject will chime in.

For your electrical gremlins, open the engine fuse box and GENTLY seat all fuses, relays etc. You will likely find about half that are not fully seated properly. This alone often solves a LOT of gremlins.

Heated/cooled seats and AC/Heater on many of the Rams only comes on with remote start when the interior is within a certain temperature range. Not sure what years and how many models this is true for but I have seen it on a couple of my buddies pickups.

I would remote start it, and then adjust the temperature settings to max AC etc. Someone may have set it to off during a remote start sycle and that it will retain until you change it.

This is from the owner's manual for my 2021 2500.

Remote Start is used to defrost windows in cold
weather, and to reach a comfortable climate in
all ambient conditions before the driver enters
the vehicle.
NOTE:
Obstructions between the vehicle and the key
fob may reduce this range Ú page 490.
HOW TO USE REMOTE START
Push and release the Remote Start button on
the key fob twice within five seconds. The
vehicle doors will lock, the parking lights will
flash, and the horn will chirp twice (if
programmed). Then, the engine will start, and
the vehicle will remain in the Remote Start
mode for a 15 minute cycle.
Pushing the Remote Start button a third time
shuts the engine off.
To drive the vehicle, push the unlock button,
insert the key into the ignition, and turn to the
ON/RUN position.
NOTE:
 With Remote Start, the engine will only run
for 15 minutes.
 Remote Start can only be used twice.
 If an engine fault is present or fuel level is
low, the vehicle will start and then shut down
in 10 seconds.
 The parking lights will turn on and remain on
during Remote Start mode.
 For security, power window and power
sunroof operation (if equipped) are disabled
when the vehicle is in the Remote Start
mode.
 The ignition must be placed in the ON/RUN
position before the Remote Start sequence
can be repeated for a third cycle.
 If your power door locks were unlocked,
Remote Start will automatically lock the
doors.
All of the following conditions must be met
before the engine will remote start:
 Gear selector in PARK
 Doors closed
 Hood closed
 Hazard switch off
 Brake switch inactive (brake pedal not
pushed)
 Battery at an acceptable charge level
 PANIC button not pushed
 Fuel meets minimum requirement
 System not disabled from previous remote
start event
 Vehicle Security system not active
 Malfunction Indicator Light is not illuminated
WARNING!
 Do not start or run an engine in a closed
garage or confined area. Exhaust gas
contains Carbon Monoxide (CO) which is
odorless and colorless. Carbon Monoxide is
poisonous and can cause serious injury or
death when inhaled.
 Keep key fobs away from children. Operation
of the Remote Start system, windows,
door locks or other controls could cause
serious injury or death.

REMOTE START FRONT DEFROST
ACTIVATION — IF EQUIPPED
When Remote Start is active, and the outside
ambient temperature is 40°F (4.5°C) or below,
the system will automatically activate front
defrost for 15 minutes or less. The time is
dependent on the ambient temperature. Once
the timer expires, the system will automatically
adjust the settings depending on ambient
conditions. See “Remote Start Comfort Systems
— If Equipped” in the next section for detailed
operation.
REMOTE START COMFORT SYSTEMS —
IF EQUIPPED
When Remote Start is activated, the front and
rear defrost will automatically turn on in cold
weather. The heated steering wheel and driver
heated seat feature will turn on if programmed
in the comfort menu screen within Uconnect
Settings Ú page 258. In warm weather, the
driver vented seat feature will automatically
turn on when Remote Start is activated, if
programmed in the comfort menu screen. The
vehicle will adjust the climate control settings
depending on the outside ambient
temperature.
Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) — If
Equipped
The climate controls automatically adjust to an
optimal temperature and mode, dependent on
the outside ambient temperature. When the
ignition is placed in the ON/RUN position, the
climate controls will resume their previous
settings.

Manual Temperature Control (MTC) — If
Equipped
 In ambient temperatures of 40°F (4.5°C) or
below, the climate settings will default to
maximum heat, with fresh air entering the
cabin. If the front defrost timer expires, the
vehicle will enter Mix Mode.
 In ambient temperatures from 40°F (4.5°C)
to 78°F (26°C), the climate settings will be
based on the last settings selected by the
driver.
 In ambient temperatures of 78°F (26°C) or
above, the climate settings will default to
MAX A/C, Bi-Level mode, with Recirculation
on.
For more information on ATC, MTC, and climate
control settings, see Ú page 59.
NOTE:
These features will stay on through the duration
of Remote Start, or until the ignition is placed in
the ON/RUN position. The climate control
settings will change, and exit the automatic
defaults, if manually adjusted by the driver
while the vehicle is in Remote Start mode. This
includes turning the climate controls off using

the OFF button.
REMOTE START ABORT MESSAGE
The following messages will display in the
instrument cluster display if the vehicle fails to
remote start, or exits Remote Start prematurely:
 Remote Start Cancelled — Door Open
 Remote Start Cancelled — Hood Open
 Remote Start Cancelled — Fuel Low
 Remote Start Cancelled — Time Expired
 Remote Start Disabled — Start Vehicle to
Reset
The message will stay active until the ignition is
placed in the ON/RUN position.
