Penstar Lifter Failure

Had this truck for a month. Bought it from a Dodge dealer. Took it back for lifter noise. Declined to repair. I got a 90 day/ 3K warranty. I am going to replace them myself. What is a good source for parts, and any decent info out there that I could look over? Thank-you, Nick

Did they pull the valve cover and look at the overhead cams? Do you have misfire?

I would at least wait for the 90 days? Many guys on the board have been able to silence the lifters with a lubrication strategy, do you want to try that first? Have you ran the codes? No misfires? running rough?

I passed on the extended warranty. They gave me a 90 day 3000 mile warranty. It states it covers 'Internally lubricated' parts. I bought it on 10/3. I haven't heard from the manager yet so, not sure why it is declined. No codes, no misfires. VERY loud tapping from valve covers.

don't pull anything or do anything yourself as of now. if the truck is under warranty they will be obligated to fix it if there is something wrong. worst case scenario, if the truck blows up, you aren't at fault because you didn't do anything to it. If they find out you were pulling lifters and valve covers they will pin it on you and void your warranty. Try taking the truck to a different dealer and see what they say

You could get in writing from other mechanic there is an internal issue, force them to help.

On the pentastar the rocker roller or whatever it's called can fail. It'll eat up the cam too. If they put a warranty on it for internal engine this should be covered. Maybe consider small claims court if they continue to deny it?

That sucks! How many miles on this 2014? Could it still be covered by the 5/60 or maybe 5yr/100K mile powertrain warranty? It doesn't matter how many owners the truck has had for that coverage.

There are youtube videos on pentastar cam/lifter repairs. I believe there's some specialized tools you need. It doesn't look like a horrible job for someone who's done them. Worst part on the 1500's is reaching the damn engine! Need scaffolding.

Good news!!! They had a change of heart. Got it back today... They replaced intake & exhaust cams, 12 rockers, 12 lifters. Nice and quiet. Once this started, I started reading, it is amazing how many different vehicles this engine is in & how long this problem has been going on. It's no wonder they didn't want to fix it, the bill was 2400.00.
