Hello all!

Looking to add some performance to my 2014 1500 Sport 4x4 DCSB. I've looked at both s/c and cam swap, but I am not sure which way to go...

I want something that can still function as a drivable truck, but that I can have some fun with at the track on the weekends. I've looked at Whipple, ProCharger, Hamburger S/C and Greene cam swap kits...
I don't really wanna do a major engine teardown, so I would like to not have to change cylinders or cranks, but am comfortable with cam, heads, lifters and the like.

I'd like to hear from people that have gone down these avenues so I can make a better decision.

About the truck:
2014 5.7 8-speed, 4x4, DCSB, 3.92 gear currently bone stock. I'm looking at LTs, exhaust and air intake right now.

Thanks!

Your best bet is to figure out what your willing to spend as far as a budget goes, then start pricing everything out and go from there.Long tubes and Supercharger with the stock cam will give you a hell'va increase in usable power, throw a blower spec cam into the mix and you'll have one hell'va quick toy.Generally the positive displacement Whipple is considered to be the top blower these days, but there's nothing wrong with the centrifugal blowers like ProCharger. Ideally you should open up the ring gaps slightly,or replace the stock pistons/rods with a drop in kit like what MMX offers.Hopefully Tach Tech will chime in,as he's done the drop-in kit on his Whipple blown 2017.

hp to hp a supercharger is going to be more streetable than a big cam build. Plus if you change the cam you will want to also go with a different stall Tq converter. Personally I would go boost.

This is where I am leaning. I am glad two posts on this so far is affirming my thought. [emoji1303]

Agree with everything that's been said. I went the mild cam then sc route but only because once I started modding I wanted more power until I got to the point that I have more than the stock suspension/brakes can handle! Reserve some fundage to do suspension and brake upgrades... Doesn't have to be crazy, but at least get a new rotor/brake combo and think about performance shocks, better rear control arms and some sway bars.

AND, if I had to do it over again I'd definitely had just gone straight to forced induction...

This is great advise--all the power in the world ain't going to help if you can't get it to the ground successfully and all you do is burn your tires up or worse yet, can't stop in a reasonable distance.

What’s your budget? That’s going to be the limiting factor. How much extra power do you want?

Big N/A power is great but it can take a lot of time and money and you likely lose some streetability.

The nice thing about a blower is that it’s completely reversible if you change your mind or you sell the truck and want to keep it.

Just keep in mind anytime you start adding 150-200whp there’s the potential for failures down the road. Luckily most companies that sell super chargers for our trucks also offer a warranty. Some better than others.

I’d like around 500 to the wheel. I feel like that would be fun at the track, but still can operate like a truck.

If that’s your goal you’ll either have to go forced induction or a built stroker.

The whipple kit will get you 500whp at about 8lbs I’d boost. My truck dynoed at 505whp in the middle of a heatwave.

So if that’s your goal that’s, I’d recommend whipple hands down.
