I am looking to sell my current truck and upgrade to a HD. I pull a race car every weekend, and next year I will be getting a new trailer, say an 18 footer fully enclosed with an on-board generator/shop.

Currently I have a 2011 1500 Hemi Outdoorsman, and I thought I was making a mistake when I bought it but I wrote it off at the time... Wish I hadn't lol, but hey hindsight is 20/20 right?

I have the option of a 2011 CTD 3500 srw from a buddy, or just a new truck, but I am not interested in another automatic. My current truck has one, and it is the first time I have ever personally owned one, and it drives me beyond insane when I am towing, changing lanes, merging... etc

My only concern is that I know there are some issues with Cummins tuning down the engines on the manual trucks to preserve the clutch, I had a 2005 3500 ctd and never had a problem, but apparently the newer ones are not as reliable.

What I would like to know is what MOD options do I have without having to do a clutch upgrade? I am more or less just interested in a cold-air intake, a 5 inch exhaust, and a tuner, but since the automatic only make 800 lb-ft of torque, and dodge thought that was too much for the manual, I am somewhat concerned that my upgrades may be too much...

I am open to anyone's input, or if there is a thread devoted to this (I searched around quite a bit, and couldn't find one) please feel free to direct me there lol.

Thanks, oh and btw if you know anybody interested in my truck I am offering a $500 finders fee.

Id be more worried about the emissions crap over everything else. Also why so against new clutches, with just that one mod the manual trans are super strong. Worried at all about voiding any warranty?

Not too worried about the emissions stuff, to my knowledge if I remove all semblance of it from the exhaust system, and straight pipe through to the end there are programmers available that will overwrite the ECU's complaints...

I am not sure that the tranny is plenty strong, my understanding is that since 2005 when I had my old truck, they changed to the G56, and paired it with a new two piece clutch or something that I briefly read about, but now can find no further mention to. I think my old truck had the NV5600, and the new one is called the G56 which can experience warping under too much torque.

I believe that the tuners for the manuals "unlock" the 190 ft lbs withheld by cummins detuning, and then add the turning of edge, or whoever you go with. I am not sure how cummins detuned the engine for the manuals but it probably jsut has something to do with limiting boost, and turbo geometry, and fuel pressure/timing. So all in all you come out with near 1000 ft lbs... might be pushing it lol.

Warranty will be of little to no concern to me, I try to be good with knowing the limitations of my vehicle, hence all the questions...

Our 09 has a H&S mini maxx and an organic faced valair dual disc clutch that pulls 10-12k lbs regularly
The tune is dynoed by H&S at 495 hp and 1100 ft lb
The G56 clutch are junk. Any more power then a dpf tune the clutch starts slipping

The truck is a monster with a little over 2 grand into it

If you wouldn't mind... what is the build that you followed?

Obviously the Mini Maxx (which I have never heard of, any problems with it? did it resolve any emissions outbursts from teh ecu?)

Exhaust... cat-back, turbo-back, ?

Intake?

Clutch, and anything else? And if you don't mind what were the approximate prices of all your upgrades? What you have built sounds basically like what I want, something that is still useful, and has a punch lol, I am not interested in any crumpled drive-shafts while towing, and I am not trying to design a race car, well actually I am but that is a different story lol

H&S tuners are the top tuner for 6.7 IMO!
Never had a single problem with it in two years now (it has never even been updated)
They run about $1000 with a pyrometer(talk to ramhunter I believe he carries them now)
They have other tuners then the mini maxx as well, the mini maxx comes with a small screen for a gauge read out and ability to tune on the fly so you knock out quite a few things with it
They have a couple different default tunes loaded to them, with a dpf (stock, 40hp, 80 hp and 120 hp) and without a DPF system ("stock" which feels nothing like stock when the dpf was there, 60 hp,120 hp and 175 hp)
It will do the ECU fooling to make the truck think it is always in active regeneration
2010-2012 6.7L Dodge Cummins - H&S Performance

The valair clutch dual disc organic sounds like it would be perfect for you as well
With most kevlar and ceramic clutch that you typically see, that grab really quick which makes backing up hard and just towing a pain
The organic faced clutch is designed for a daily driver who still tows with there high HP truck (they really arent ment to be used in pulling trucks/drag racing)
They are designed to handle 550 horsepower and come with a new flywheel and basically all the other week links in the G56
Theyre around $1200 but well worth the investment already having the tuner

Other then the mini maxx w/dpf delete and the clutch thats all the truck has and it runs like an animal with 95k+ miles on it

Obviously a pretty heavy load haha

Sorry if I skipped over anything you were looking for, I'll be keeping an eye out in case you have any other questions

So if you were to remove your tuner what would happen to the truck? Would it default to the stock power level, because my M.O. in the past was if I ever had to go for dealer service/warranty repair for any reason I would remove the edge tuner I had. I suppose this gets somewhat tricky though with the newer exhaust systems, and all the complex emissions crap huh?

What type of connectors run to the DPF? Do they connect to the tuner or do you just wrap it in electrical tape and zip tie it to your frame?

Did you modify the exhaust in any way other than to remove the DPF? I always liked the sound of my straight piped 5.9, or in this case did you not really find it worthwhile?

Also, do you know if the H&S dyno run is shaft HP or RWHP?

Well, I guess this project is shot. I couldn't find any interested buyers for my truck here, even with a $500 finders fee so I guess I will just have to stick with modifying my current 1500...

Thank you everyone for all your input though.
