Anyways just a cautionary tale on test driving and playing with all the features of a vehicle before you buy it. I bought mine sight unseen on specifications because I thought it would be close to the same as my old one. I've already said go chrome on the tailgate on your new ram. I certainly have no issues with the drive train or the air suspension of the new truck. Those things they got right in my opinion.

I actually like that fancy trim. I’ve never understood the whole de-badging thing....lol.

As far as whether or not the chrome “RAM” letters are clad like the chrome-plated plastic covers on the Laramie wheels, that I don’t know. I just know that if you opt to have the chrome lettering deleted it’s like a 168-dollar charge...

I do like the big Ram’s head on the tailgate like on everything else but that might be kinda hard to do considering the word RAM back there is kinda raised, in other words not flat, so I don’t know how that would work.

Is the letters on the tailgate removeable? If so you could pull them off and put a ram head emblem on. Or are the letters clipped onto the tailgate or like embossed?

Again, I’m not sure if they are or not. I didn’t really study them when I was at the dealership last but if I had to take an educated guess, they really look to be chrome-plated plastic lettering that’s stuck on with typical double-sided tape.

I can’t understand why there wouldn’t be paint underneath the lettering, it doesn’t make sense to not but like I said as well before, it’s awful strange that the factory charges a fee to not put those chrome letters on the tailgate...[emoji848]

But yes, the word RAM on the back is raised so I think it would be a negative on making the premium tailgate look the regular ones with the Ram emblem in the center.

As a True-Blue owner, definitely chrome.

IMHO, trying to murder-out a blue truck makes it look dull or unclean rather than bad ass. Just saying.... :hidesbehindsofa:

I like your thinking!....[emoji41]Honestly I figured I’d get a lot more recommendations saying to go without the chrome lettering. As I said tho, I thought they were dead-sexy on the Black limited I checked out.

Guess maybe I should throw in pics of trucks in the same color I’m looking at for comparison.

I wish you could just get the Limited with the regular Ram emblem on the gate. I like that strip of chrome across the bottom but still not big on the massive letters.

Body color. That is WAY too much chrome and WAY too big! Might as well chrome the whole dam tailgate.

Pretty sure there are some pegs or screws on each letter.

Well, thats a really good point to consider because after what the dealership salesman told me the other day when I asked about the sport hood as an upgrade, they might be able to work with you and send an unpainted tailgate assembly for a Laramie model to a paint shop and have it color matched along with the Limited trim molding added on the bottom of it.

He said if I really wanted that sport hood...9e3a892b71d990bdfae302333c1445c3.jpg

...that I could be arranged through them. It’s just that I’d have to have it painted to match.

Sure, now that I said somethin’, here come the neigh-sayers...lol. Just kidding. lol.

I agree tho, that is a lot of chrome, especially on the limited with that chrome molding on the bottom and especially if you go the route I am with the chrome bumpers. lol.

See my dilemma??....[emoji12]

One way to find out is for someone to pop the access panel of the other side of the tailgate and look but if there is pegs or screws, it’d be like if you wanted to remove that factory plastic cap off the 3rd-gen tailgates. You would have about 5 or 6 square holes that would have to be filled in, ground, mudded over, sanded, primed and painted to get rid of it.

One thing about having all that shiny stuff back there, it would sure be a deterrent to all the inconsiderate ******* high-beamers that refuse to dim their lights at night for traffic in front of them...lol.

Here's a set of OEM letters for sale on ebay showing posts on each letter.

Hmm, guess that explains the upcharge if you delete them from the Limited order form.

That sucks tho, if you ever change your mind against them somewhere down the road, you’re kinda stuck with them unless you wanna do some bodywork on the mounting holes.

But on the bright side tho, if you ever scratch one of the letters or lose one, those tabs look like they make them easy to replace.

I take it auto-grade, double-sided tape does the rest?

Pardon the terrible music but this video shows that there isn’t raised letters stamped in the sheet metal behind the chrome ones, just a few mounting holes on a smooth surface.

It’s like they took the regular tailgate and punched some holes in it to accept the chrome letters so once they’re there, there’s no removing them unless you whip out the body shop tools, welder, grinder...

I can support that. just don't go murdering out a blue truck with black accents--that's when is looks dull or even uncleaned.

You can have the letters painted if you decide you don't like the chrome, but you can't get them chromed if you don't like the paint so if you're really unsure I'd keep that in mind.

Never thought of that. Might look kinda goofy having them painted the same color as the truck but you could definitely paint them a different color if you wanted them to stand out. And it would be easier to do as well since you could use the debadging trick with fishing line to remove them from the tailgate first and not have to mess with masking and taping.
