Hi everyone! I'm new to the site. Hear with a couple questions. I'm juggling the idea of doing some work to my 2009 dodge ram 5.7. I'm putting money away every month, and am thinking about spending some tax money! :) I'd like to purchase the functional ram air hood, bolt on a fast man throttle body, and American racing headers. Has anyone put any of these upgrades on your 4th gen rams? What kind of gains did you see? Also I was wondering if you could port and polish the stock intake/exhaust? Hope to get some info. Would appreciate any! To note my truck is a big horn package, which basically only means it came stock with dual tails. If it means anything I installed a flowmaster muffler.

First, welcome to RF!

If you're looking to get a throttle body, you should get a ported one from Moes Performance. He is a vendor here and can set you up with what you want for your needs.

If you mean porting the heads, yes it can be done, but it'd be a hassle. I hear that these hemi heads flow really well as it is, and there are a lot of guys running boost through them with no problems. The intake manifold cannot be ported as it is a plastic piece. If adding headers and a ported throttle body, you need to look into a tuner as well. Sean with Hemifever will create a tune for your specific mods, and any future mods.

Hope this helped.

Im not sure if port and polish ing a plastic manifold is a good Idea. I know on other cars with plastic manifolds people have issues with cracking because you weaken the plastic. And when it gets hot and cold hot and cold it will eventually crack. The best seat of the pants feel has to be longtubes. Maybe a stall converter? For the price of a 3000 stall it will have the best performance gains for the money then any other mod, After that tuner, then headers, then custom tune. Thats my personal opinion.

Thanks!

Yes I meant heads. And appreciate all the info and help. I wasn't aware of the plastic. Do you know of any gains seen with the ram air hood and air intake?

The heads can be ported quite easily, many vendors in the hemi community do great jobs with them, don't bother polishing, the vendors basically refuse to do it because there's no gains to be had.

All of the mods you're talking about have been done many times over on the 4th gens, many of us are running the APM ram air hood, I don't have a CAI anymore since I'm boosted, but the APM box mounts flush with the bottom of the hood in the OEM air box location. There is some benefit to a ram air hood over stock, but only at highway speeds where you're getting the coldest air flow. A much cheaper option is the Vararam with the stock hood, but I'm not a personal fan of it.

You have several options for the throttle body, Moe's, Bully's, or Fastman, all work well.
