Thank you for the suggestion, I'll keep it in mind because I want it done right and although I'll be using what I bought for it at first I'll look into GTECHNIQ as well for a final choice of what to use.

I am looking to eventually get a power washer setup too, that's another detail I'll be dealing with later on as well. Right now it's a matter of what I can do with things as they are for me but once I get past the knee issue I'll be able to do more and do it better too.

I want to thank all you guys for weighing in. Not the answers I was hoping for, but pretty much what I figured. I may buy a pressure washer anyway, but at least I know it's not going to be a substitute for good hand washing.
If you have a spray off wash near you that's an easy way to power wash off your truck without going through the scratch-n-wash. Part of the reason the drive thru washes work well is they use pretty aggressive detergents and degreasers, stuff you probably wouldn't use knowingly on your own vehicle.

I personally never really used a power washer until I ceramic coated and started using a foam cannon. It does help get a lot of the grime off that you would otherwise need to scrub off by hand.

In the old days it was wash, polish, sealant and paste wax. The coatings today have come so far I dont know that I will ever paste wax again. There are even spray ceramics that can be used to boost your coating or apply a quick coating that will last a couple months or more.

There is one not far from here (2 miles one way) but do remember you have to drive it to the wash and back, that induces the chance of some debris/crap getting back onto the vehicle during the drive back, which you really don't want.

You can use it for blasting off what will come off but still, I'm not wanting to "Contaminate" the truck's surface just by doing it, making it a less than desireable outcome after all the effort of doing it.

That's why I'm fine with getting my own power washer, it's all done on the spot from start to finish with no risk of any such stuff getting onto the vehicle before I start the process of doing all the rest beyond a simple power wash.

Just got in from buying a power washer and I went with a 2000 PSI Ryobi unit.

That should be enough PSI to get it clean without any real risk of peeling off the decals from using it. Picked up a foam blaster and also a water broom that can flip to the up position to do the underside of the truck too along with any concrete stuff I'd need to get cleaned with it.

All total it was just over $325 out the door and all of it was cheaper than I thought it was going to be.
Knee surgery has finally been scheduled for the week after next so I'll be putting it to good use before that's done.

not to sound too braggy, but when we built our garage I had a hot/cold wall mounted electric pressure washer installed inside.it works awesome on all my off road toys and the boats.best of all it is great for doing road grime on the power wagon during the winter.it's a 2500 psi canpump italian motor with a cox hose reel with 200 feet of hose.I also got an under chassis sprayer and floor scrubber.

I'm thinking about setting up an open concrete pad area for such things myself when the shop is built.
Good thing for you is it can make heated water and that does help.

I use an electric one at home and honestly it does the job of removing the mud and applying the foam. A thermal is more powerful but for a regular wash I find the electric sufficient and more practical.
