Ahhhhh It makes more sense now. Isn't that kinda what a so called "chip" does to the PCM? That's a pretty smart idea!

I am totally lost lol this is like *whoosh* over my head

The mod is to add a 4.7k ohm resistor in series with the IAT sensor to make the final value of the signal higher. This signal goes to the PCM and tells the PCM what the Inlet Air Tempeature (IAT) is. The colder the air the more fuel that is added by the PCM. The 4.7K value signals the air temperature is about 20 degrees cooler than it actually is and the PCM lengthen the injector pulse slightly making the Air Fuel mixture slightly higher. This is good to compenate for headers and/or better throttle respond which gives overall improved drivability. The IAT is a two wire sensor and the r esistor can be added to either wire.

Bill, I like your explanation better than mine. Chip is different, a chip is more like a tuner as it usually provides a different fuel/timing table. IMO, Don't use one on a Ram, stick with hand tuners..

Has anyone used the power wire with the Super chips performance tune?

I thought the O2 sensors would eventually over-rule the power wire mod once the engine reached operating temperature and the fuel trims had been re-calibrated after the PCM reset. The only time the power wire would continue to fool the PCM to add more fuel would be when the engine is still warming up to normal operating temps and at WOT. I didn't think there would be any other performance increase during normal operating temps. Am I wrong about this?

I just did this yesterday to my truck. I'm not real sure if I could tell a difference or not.

my understanding was a continual effect but noticed at wot. felt by the enormous wedgie in my crotch:Wedgie:

this might sound stupid but why not just extend the same wires and mount the IAT further down the intake closer to the filter where the air is denser??

denser meaning cooler? hmmmmm.I'm not sure there would be that much difference seeing as the IAT measures ambient temperature.

Then you would also have to make a new hole and fill the existing hole. Sounds like to much work. This mod was easy.

when I used to sell intakes we sold a IAT relocator. it would move it down by the grill - which then reads a much lower temp. Same idea with moving it closer to the filter - it would read a lower temp.

I'm a new guy reading all these forums to prep me for my 3g Ram purchase.
So forgive the noob nature.

Has anyone tried using a potentiometer run to the cab?
If paired with a handheld tuner with the ability to see what Air temp the IAT is sensing. One could essentially tune it better and more accurately for their density altitude?
