I noticed that there seems to be many guys on here having problems with their cruise not working. Mine was also not working, and was having the same issue as many of you. As in no cruise icon on the dash when I pushed the switch on the steering wheel. I found out that the brake pedal was not pushing the brake switch plunger back far enough when the pedal was released. This caused the cruise to think I still pushing the brake pedal. Funny thing was my brake lights were working properly and only activated when I pushed the pedal. Kinda weird and I never did figure out why the brake lights worked the way they were suppose to but the cruise did not. Anyway, to fix the problem all I did was found a rubber cap to snap on over the brake switch plunger. By adding the rubber cap, it made the pedal push the plunger on the switch back further when the pedal was no longer being pushed. The cruise icon was back and I am now able to set the cruise. Just thought I would share and hope it helps some of you.

Mine has been doing this for years. I guess because I grew up with vacuum tube
TV and radios, I would make a soft fist and lightly "bang" on the steering wheel right above the cruise buttons. Worked first time, works every time.

I dunno, maybe that little vibration finds it's way to the switch? I'll check, it's
worth a quick look and it 'beats' banging on the switch assembly!

My cruise occasionally disappears; the icon doesn’t appear when the “on” button is pushed. When it happens I simultaneously press and hold the “Set” and “Resume” buttons for 5-8 seconds then release. So far, it’s worked every time…

Best,

I had an old floor model tv that would sizzle when turned on , but no sound or picture . A swift hard smack on top of it would cause the sizzling to stop , then it would work as intended.

I always thought that it would catch fire when I was not home ,so I got in the habit of always unplugging it when not watching it .

^Sounds wisdom, I would have too. o_O

Those older units could be counted on for connections that were less than ideal, and the pins for the vacuum tubes would not always make the best possible connections in their sockets. Now factor-in the higher voltage and current these circuits and tubes required and your typical TV could be a disaster waiting to happen.

During a TV Repair course, a part of my electronics training, we spent a fair amount of time on tube TV units. We were told there were still plenty "out there" and always required more attention than a solid-state unit. Aside from the very high voltage of the flyback transformer we would often find routine circuit voltages over 400v wandering throughout the chassis for the vacuum tubes, so chances are real good that the sizzling sound you heard was actually arcing.

Things like this were the basis for the reason my parents' and grandparents' generations would unplug EVERYTHING when not in use.

On my "99" Ram, a few yrs. back both my "Cruise" & "Overdrive off" quit working at the same time. Would be great if I find that switch may be the problem.

I run my finger from the right of my cruise button and then onto the cruise. Works every time now. I was going to replace the wiring which is about $265 American money.
