I have a 2013 5.7 6spd and I just got a great deal on a procharger set up for it but now I am having some second thoughts. I keep finding mixed reviews on if the transmission will hold up or not. I will not be taking this truck to a track or racing it anytime soon just wanted some more around town fun.

So is it just a ticking time bomb? Also the truck is paid for and I dont want payments on a new one just to get the 8 spd.

Learn to drive the truck to the transmission's weakness and it'll last you a while. Manually downshift it to 4th before going WOT on the highway and keep it below 140mph and you should be good. You will shorten the life of the trans but that's most power adders anyways and keep up on regular fluid and filter changes (30,000mi max).

I think everybody wants to say do it, but know things will break. Hopefully your truck is at least a 3.92 rear end and has the tow pack with the aux Trans cooler. It'll be the start of continuous upgrades as parts break and in the end you'll have a really fast truck you've paid for twice.

I have the heavy duty trans cooler and plan to do a 3.92 swap in the future. charonblk07 are you saying not to go into 5th or 6th gear? or just manually shift through them.

We have heard that the 2-1 (35mph) down shift is instant death with a S/C and the 6 speed. Which is a shame, that was my favorite time to mash the throttle on my 14 Black out express.

The 5th gear is weak on the 6 speed, it's the same as the 4th gear on the 5 speed. You want to avoid WOT in this gear. If you're cruising, manually downshift from 6 or 5 into 4th before going WOT and try not to upshift into 5th at WOT which will happen around 130mph. Sonnax has a replacement input clutch drum which they claim fixes a lot of the issues but nobody I've heard of has run one long enough or hard enough to say whether it's a real fix or not.

That's the first that I've heard of a 2-1 issue.
So dont mash the pedal until 36mph:pepper::pepper:

Flooring it off the line is actually the best way to keep the 545/65rfe alive, it's quite strong though WOT upshift until 5th gear; it's the WOT downshifting that is the real issue.

As for my experience with power and the 45 series transmissions, I managed to keep my built 545 alive for 3 years of aggressive daily driving with a D1SC at 10-12psi before I finally killed it several times with the bigger F-1A blower. I also had a 545 last over 2 years in a high compression head/cam/nitrous truck that was running 13.5s as a quad cab 4wd with a 500lb audio package.
