Newbe here with a problem. I’m a fair back yard mech, but know nothing about headlight, upgrade bulbs etc.. I have a 2015 Laramie Crew with Projector head lights. Last week I ordered and received a set of Plasmaglow bulbs as a replacement upgrade for my stock halogen bulbs. The bulbs I removed were 9012 12V 55W DOTs.
The Plasmaglow bulbs sent, were 9006s and 55W. According to the application chart, the 9006 is a usable sub for the 9012 stock bulb. However, took the truck out for a ride tonight and the Plasmaglow were about 2/3 as bright as my stock halogens. Before you beat me like a dog, remember, I’m a headlight upgrade Virgin, so be gentle.
Thanks

To actually address your question, 9006 bulbs have less lumens than a 9012 bulb. I changed the bulbs in my 2017 projectors from 9005 @ 1800 lumens to 9011 @ 2300 lumens and it’s way better. Graygoose posted a chart on a headlight thread that lists all the bulbs and their lumens. If I can find I’ll link it in

Razzman,
If I replace the 9006 halogens with 9012 halogens, will i have a heat problem with the housing?

I installed Biltek LED bulbs made for factory projectors, and am happy with them. A heck of a lot brighter than the halogen bulbs that were in them. Im sure they arent as beight as HID, but i did not want to have to worry about a HID ballast burning out, and waiting weeks for a replacement. HIDs ate notoriois for the ballasts burning out.
There is a vendor on this site that sells the new LED bulbs for your truck, but they are on backorder. Diode Dynamics. You could buy those, or the ones I installed.

Thanks for the LED info.
Not being comfortable, knowing nothing about headlight bulbs and the differences, I spent some time doing research on halogens.
According to a Consumer Reports article, no matter how much money you spend on halogen bulb options, none of them will provide the “further down the road” coverage, that they all advertise. They may be brighter or seem more white, but beam strength doesn’t change.
