I know the manual says drive moderately, brief open throttle, blah blah during break in. But, wouldn't pulling heavy weight with under 1000 miles be a little much on the engine and tranny . I'm specifically referring to my 6.4 with probably around 13k at last.

But I only have under 200 miles right now. I should be getting my rv within the next week or two. I won't have near 1000 miles. It's bike season. I have 2 bikes. besides I can't afford the gas for the truck :).

The manual says don't do this. You should follow the break-in as stated in your owner's manual.

You waited how long and went through all of the hassle to get the truck, don't screw it up now and mess up the break in. Get at least 500 miles on it and then try it. I wouldn't be going directly to towing 13000 pounds but that is just me.

I got the 6 banger and I have 1460 kms on it. Still taking it easy and just a couple of paddle to metal runs. Pulls really good, but not a "Hemi"

Really.....

My manual said drive moderately for 300 miles, with no speeds over 55 for the 1st 60 miles.

It also said no towing of any kind for the 1st 500 miles, and then for the 1st 500 miles of towing, do not exceed 50 mph.

I wouldn't tow that heavy until there is at least 1000 miles on the truck, but that's me.

I see the break in section. I didn't see anywhere where it says to not tow for 500 and to tow at 50 after. Where do you see this. I threw a couple hundred miles on last night. Now I have 350 miles. I don't want to hook up 13 or 14k pounds and put any undesired strain on the truck. Thanks

I must of missed the rest all i saw was drive moderately for the first 300 I could of very easily missed something.

Honestly at 500 you should be solid these engines require very little brake in the tolerances, oils and assmboly methods are so good at 500 miles just get that puppy home and put a few more miles before you pull with wot accleration with the trailer.

Page 551 of my manual, under towing, and then towing requirements

Towing Requirements
To promote proper break-in of your new vehicle drivetrain
components the following guidelines are recommended:
CAUTION!
• Do not tow a trailer at all during the first 500 miles
(805 km) the new vehicle is driven. The engine,
axle or other parts could be damaged.
(Continued)
CAUTION! (Continued)
• Then, during the first 500 miles (805 km) that a
trailer is towed, do not drive over 50 mph
(80 km/h) and do not make starts at full throttle.
This helps the engine and other parts of the
vehicle wear in at the heavier loads.
WARNING!
[/I

It's on page 600 of the 2014 manual.......says the same thing too......

Well, I went to ram trucks, and downloaded the owners manual for 2015 2500/3500 trucks....and it is 883 pages long vice 296....so I am not sure what you are looking at and calling an owners manual.

And, in the Starting & Operating section of that manual, on page 664, right hand side of the page, it says:

components the following guidelines are recommended:
CAUTION!

Amazingly just like what I posted earlier. :roflsquared:

BTW, it is nice to have it all on the computer too, if you want to download it.
It is free..................

I had about 4k on mine before I pulled our 13k 5'er. That said, was fairly well broken in as had a round trip to SD , about 1300 miles plus everyday driving. Still, wouldn't want to pull that heavy under a 1000 miles. Don't know your elevation or diff gearing, but can tell you in the hills and or higher elevations, especially if you have the 3.73's , it will be pulling hard. Also, I personally, would have your first oil change after pulling the first time. My opinion, the first few thousand miles is where you will have the greatest wear on your engine. Just my thoughts.

Now, i got it. I called ram and they will sned you ALL the literature free with a new vehicle purchase. It is the manual you are talking about on paper. Its a monster book! They also send a warranty book and uconnect book. The manual I was talking about came with the truck and goes in that holder that has a spot for business cards and a pen.

if I was you, I'd download it as well.....much easier searching for stuff that way.

Plus, if it's raining outside, you ain't got to run to the truck to check.
