Anyone running the direct fit Pypes Violter muffler on their 5.7
If so how does it sound. How does it compare the mufflex 14 or 18.
BSM has the kit for around 175...

It sounds awesome I have the kit
Video sound good bud... how long you had it on the truck...still loving it?
any major drone noice?
looks like in the picture the kit comes in 4 parts pluss clamps? If so I was going to TIG the extensions directly to the muffler with some ss rod, then use band clams to connect to stock pipes on truck instead of using a "crush" style clamp like it looks like they provide in the picture. Would help in future with removal or replacment.

My last truck I had 2) 10 series FM's. Not looking to go as loud this time, just want something more agresive then stock.

on the challenger video it sounds bad @ss, i just worry about drone

ya me too, looking at the diagram it looks like a hybrid straight threw design not a chamber style like FM so it Shouldn't have a bad drone...

Im almost ready to pull the trigger and give it a whirl :naughty:

I just installed the violator kit today. Took forever to get the gigantic stock muffler out but the work was well worth it. The violator muffler is like a perforated Y on the inside of it. You can look through it quite easily.

I immediately notices a throaty idle and grumble at idle. At acceleration the truck seems to be more alive. At cruise the muffler is hardly noticeable at all; even in MDS mode. When you get on it.....it sounds the way a v8 truck should sound. Deep and aggressive. No tin sounding at all.

For the price this kit is fantastic. I recommend it to everyone looking for deeper sound.

It's cool to hear some comments about this kit I have been considering it just worried about mds drone. That's the only reason I don't have a wxhaust right now.

After driving the truck with this muffler for a little while I note the following....

Start-up sounds fantastic. Nice mean growl
WOT....all I can say is WOW!! It makes people look at you.
Idle has a very nice deep, lope tone
Cruise is good except for under high load and low RPM

At around 1600-1800 RPM when under high load (going up hill on the highway), and NOT in MDS mode, there is very distinct drone. This only happens in 6th gear when in this specific RPM and loaded.

It looks like a 1/4 Helmholtz resonator may be in my future. I now need to figure out where I can install 31" of pipe at a 90 degree angle to the current setup so as to kill the resonant frequency.

Drone suppression pipe ordered. I'll follow up after the install. I will kill this drone.

I have been looking into these I really want a exhaust but I can't stand mds. My boss had a g8 headers full solo performance exhaust cats, muffler and the helmholtz pipes it was one of the nastiest sounding cars I have herd and I rode in it and 0 highway exhaust I was amazed. Here is a few pics of mufflex pipe installed. I am looking forward to your review of it because I would like the pypes kit also.

The Pypes kit actually has a small section of straight pipe it adds before the muffler. My goal is to install the suppression pipe in this small section to save on having to cut the stock pipe. It should make for an easier install as well.

I'll keep you posted.

I do have to admit....if it were not for the Wife....I wouldn't mess with the suppression pipe. I LOVE the sound of the truck now.

sounds good! I like pypes products and that is decent price. Even tho I jus did my own muffler swap for like $70 total…

Interested in the suppression pipe. any links?

Looks like a series of bends capped off to help with resonance frequencies. I could prob make one for about $40.

The one from Mufflex comes as 409 stainless. Thus, the cost is a little more.

It should be delivered on Tuesday.

I ran one before, took it right back off because it sounded horrible and was falling apart after a few months of use
