Didn't read other replies here, but I have a 1500 Crew Cab (Lonestar trim, which also called Bighorn). There are a few times when a longer bed would be nice and I think the bigger cab makes the truck looks a little disproportionate (though I find bigger wheels tend to fix this issue), but I find myself more and more glad I got the crew cab because of the functionality and extra interior space because:
1. I can easily put 3 relatively large adults in the backseat.
2. I do gigs and take my keyboard in the truck everywhere. The Lonestar has panels underneath the back seats that turn it into a flat floor. Perfect for putting my keyboard in there. Means I don't have to worry about rain.
3. Hidden storage compartments underneath floormats (not sure if this is on shorter cab).
4. I've helped a lot of people move houses/apartments. You'd be surprised how much you can fit into the back seat (with floor panels down).
So I'd say just think about what needs you have. You mentioned the Harley. If that's a sure thing, I'd just make sure it fits in the shorter bed.
Last resort, is go with a 2500 and get nice interior space AND a long bed
