Are these paintable and has anyone ever used parts like these ones?

Thinking of getting something like these (not paying $75,000 for oem stuff bc I’m not sure it’s worth it).

My goal is to get color matched bumpers and grille (want to keep steel bumper...don’t want sport plastic bumper).

The couple Qs I have are:

1) with a quality paint job will they be okay?

2) they list the bumpers as “powder coated”? They’re paintable with minimal prep right??

I think it’s be a killer setup as long as the parts are decent enough to make good with a quality paint job on them...

any help is appreciated guys!

Just scuff them up, wipe down with alcohol and paint. Them being powder coated is fine, just scuff them up good so the new paint has a good bonding surface.

I do this exact same thing for my customers quite regularly. The bumpers and grille you posted will only require a minimal amount of prep work to be painted.

If you are dead set on paint that's okay but having them powder coated to match your truck will look great and be so much more durable to the elements.

If you are having someone paint them for you make sure you are using a quality shop. Poor prep work can kill the looks of the paint job on the grille and bumpers.

Didn’t know if powdercoat was like chrome where you hear people say not to try to paint over it.

I have a good local shop. They’ve painted flares that I used to have on this same truck and they did repair work after a fender bender. Both times they’ve done a wonderful job with the matching of the color and the finished look has always been of high quality.
Just wasn’t sure if the parts would come in horrible shape etc.

And I wasn’t sure if those specific bumpers could be painted easily.
I’d be buying them and dropping them off to the shop.

Glad that you have a quality shop that you have a relationship with. That is one of the most important things in the automotive industry. When I have powder coated parts going for paint I like to perform a pretty heavy sanding job on the powder coat with a 60grit paper first and then I wet sand with 120-350-500-700 to make sure there aren't any imperfections.

you are better with OEM parts because those bumpers are going to rust in a year.I went that way on a Jeep wrangler Sahara instead of OEM and year later they looked like crap.

Even if they’re getting painted?

isnit the quality of the metal that’s so much worse? I’m not keeping the finish on them, it would be primered and painted.

All I can tell you is you get what you pay for.
Well damn that sucks. I get how the cheap bumpers coating etc wouldn’t last if I left them how they came but I would’ve thought that with a quality paint job it should prevent the rust issues. Oh well.

I was going to try and wrap the chrome bumpers on my sons ram. After seeing the ones you posted. I'm going that route instead.
I live in SC so I'm not worried about harsh environment.
