with the truck retired, i feel like its time to get new gears. right now i have 3.55 gears but want to get 3.92.
how much faster does it feel? is the top end a lot slower?
whats the best brand/ where to buy?
also what is an average price to pay to put them in?
any other advice would be appreciated.

I thought it was only 06+ that had to have the grinding done.

Yea singlecab my 04 has 4.56s no grinding here. But I would do 4.10s if I were to do it again. I'm gonna be dropping down tire sizes so it sure to make my highway mpg worse.

I have 3.92 oem in my Ram. I'd like 4.56 but I do a lot of highway driving and don't want to kill my mpg. I'm happy with my gears, but 4.10s might be fun : )

3.55 to 3.92 you may not feel much difference. Get at least a 4.10

If i were to do it again, i would go 4.10 over the 4.56 i have now. The 4.56 is fun but at 70-75 mph the tach is around 3300 rpm. I can watch the gas gauge move. My truck is a very late build 05 so i had to grind the housing but i believe early 05 and down no grinding is needed. Grinding the housing was the worst part of the whole install

On long highway trips, I still average 17-18mpg doing mostly 70-75mph. 4.56's are not a bad gear for highway driving.

Ive had the 3.92 in my truck for years but needed more traction so im switching out the whole rearend with a brand new 3.92 limited slip one. The unit cost me $2,250 and im getting it installed on tuesday. The labor is going to run about $300 more just to give you an idea how much it would cost totally new. A good shop may be able to redo yours for half that but it takes alot of skill to set one up and shim it right so it lasts.
4.10 may be a better ratio for a normally aspirated truck but with my supercharger it is overkill for regular street driving.
