7 speed conversion harness $145 (M² Mods)

Plus from Mopar/salvage yard/Quirk Parts, etc you will need...

18 HVAC module (@ $120) see below
13-18 8.4 bezel ($80-$180)
18 UAx Radio ($700-$1300)

When using a 18 UAQ or UAS radio (Android Auto/CarPlay) you will need ...
18 HVAC module (vs 13-17) (@ $120)

* 14-18 ram 1500's have a variable displacement compressor (typ. associated with the 7 speed fan)
>> 14-17's = 68268186Ax HVAC module
>> 18's = 68366552AA HVAC module

& Need to match the HVAC module to the 8.4 radio year.

Thx Mike. I can't post your link with Taptalk. Sword3274 this upgrade is not hard to do at all. Read the links MPgrimm2 posted and a lot of it will make more sense. We usually buy the 8.4 MTC bezels used from wrecking yards or Ebay because they are much cheaper. I will help you find the parts you need if you have difficulty. Remember if your not sure shoot me or someone who knows a PM before you buy it so we can verify its the correct one for you. Parts are listed incorrectly all the time because wrecking yards get extremely confused on what is what.

It's been reported that you can get it off the boot loop by leaving the USB in for a day or two until it times out and resets then remove.

PS: if you have additional issues please start a new thread vs in someone else's thread that isn't related to your issue.

Dude just buy this. This alpine 8” radio sells for $1600. New. It is a hell of s lot better feature wise, and the price is crazy low. If I hadn’t of bought my radio, I would have grabbed this in s heart beat!

There's a lot more vehicle settings that are integrated into the 13-18 Ram radios than were a part of the earlier trucks (like adding heated /cooled seats).

It's very possible, but there's a lot of extra details to make it work such as idatalink Maestro, their interface adapter, an idatalink compatible radio, their replacement USB hub interface board (stock isn't compatible with aftermarket radio), and possibly aftermarket interface adapter for factory backup camera/steering wheel audio controls if you have those (maybe part of idatalink Maestro, but IDK).

As far as what I need, I think I'm good...at least for the moment. I know which direction to go going forward, what to buy, etc. I'm not buying anything today, but I want to shop for a good price on the radio first (since that's the most expensive thing).

A question about that. How reliable are places like car-part.com? Looking over there, I see a receiver for a good price:



But when I try to look that up on their website I don't see it anywhere. Are sites like this updated in a timely fashion? Are they good with over-the-phone or online ordering? That's a pretty good price but if it's no longer valid because they haven't updated their stock in two weeks that doesn't do me any good.

Yep. That's the one.

As far as car-part, Schram, LKQ, eBay etc ...
They can be fine, but make sure they will let you return it if it's not as described.

and it's always a good idea to get them to email you pictures of the front and back of the actual radio as well as the PN labels on it so that you can make sure they didn't rip any of the connectors out with the wires and it's actually the correct PN of the radio.

Hey all, another quick question about the bezel. I've got the 7-speed fan control, 3-dial bezel that looks like this:



A lot of the install/refits that I see are using this:



I'm guessing the harness from M2Mods will handle this different array? Will there be any added functionality - such as on-screen display of AC - with the new radio? Will any functionality be lost? Would it be best to find a bezel with the same array (3-dial) and is it possible to use my own buttons from my old bezel (the one coming out)?

EDIT: Will a bezel with dual zone controls work? Something like this: https://www.ebay.com/i/173514944584?chn=ps. I would assume the dual zone function function would not work, but I didn't know if the bezel itself would suffice. It'd probably bother me if I bought it and it didn't work. Haha!

Just verifying that I definitely want an 18 radio (as opposed to older one) because these are the ones that have CarPlay...correct? I ask because there are tons on eBay for up to 2017, but the 2018's seem to be scarce.

Correct. Only the 18's have AA/CarPlay.

So, Mpgrimm2, Ricks, or anyone else...the question about the bezel with the dual zone heater control.




I don't have dual-zone now, so will this bezel even work? If so, are the buttons just non-functional? Which ones would control the "normal" heat/cool (assuming it would work) for my truck?

The dual zone will work. But The auto button and the two heat and cold buttons on the passenger side won’t work. Drivers side will work. If you’re looking for the cheaper route you can get a dual zone one for $125 on eBay. Or you can get a single zone bezel. Off of all Mopar parts for $193. I would suggest spend the extra to get the single zone cause a dual zone is pointless and you can’t use three buttons.

Right now waiting on my harness from M2 Mods (he finished it today!!!) and my 8.4 single zone bezel to do the same exact conversion in my 2018 Ram. I have the same setup as you and I’m upgrading to a UAQ
