Have any of you ever gone through this. My 2015 RAM 1500 has had a water leak and always seems to get a lot of water into the crew cab area after a heavy rain. I took it back to the dealer (while under basic warranty) but the problem came back this month. I called RAM CARE and they said they are going to escalate the case and see about getting my truck replaced. What does getting truck replaced mean? This is a $52k truck with maxcare extended warranty. Does it mean i get a completely brand new truck? what happens with the financing. i still owe $26K on the truck. They will give me the blue book value? and then i go buy another? or what does a dealer buy back mean? It feels like i would be starting over again, no?

anyone who has gone through a similar experience, please advise.

I know this doesn't answer your question(s), but just wondering how many times has the truck been at the dealer for this water leak? What repair was done to stop the leak? I know several people on this forum has had water leaks in the cab that were hard to diagnose, but eventually was able to find a way to stop it. Have you allowed a different dealer try to resolve this? If you like your truck and want to keep it I recommend staying the course and allow the dealer (or another one) give it another shot. Bottom line is a seal (3rd brake light, satellite antenna, window, etc.) is allowing water to pass and should be a relatively easy fix when found. Best of luck!

I don't see FCA buying back a 4year old truck unless there were multiple failed attempts at fixing this issue. As stated the usual culprit is the rear brake light and shark fin. I have read of windshields leaking as well as a weld on the roof. Neither very common, but all are fixable.

That “ Fca” rep is probably being coached as we speak to not ever say that again lol. Hopefully someone who has gone through the buy back process will post soon. Best of luck, start looking for mold if this has been an ongoing issue.

Been through the buy-back process with a Chevy before, under Florida Lemon Law. Chevy provided me with a new truck, they moved the existing financing to the new VIN, and the service contract transferred also. My truck was only 1 model year old. It cost me nothing. Under FL Lemon Law, they have the right to charge me with depreciation, based on mileage, but they did not. That's my experience....I can't say it will be yours.

I’ve been though it with FCA back in 2016. My 2014 Bighorn with Pentastar had nothing but problems. Search my posts.

Here’s how FCA (thru a third party) did it:
1) Gave me a credit of sticker that was was on the truck. I didn’t pay anywhere near stick so I was ahead.
2) Gave me a credit for any aftermarket upgrades I did that I had receipts for. That was $2500 in my case.
2) Took a charge of $.25/mile for miles I drove the truck.
3) Took a charge for the payoff of the loan balance I had left.
4) Gave me a credit for the balance toward a new FCA vehicle.

I used the amount to buy down a 2016 Longhorn. In the end it amounted to about a $10K “check” they wrote me. But hey I now drive a truck I love that has a solid Hemi.

In the end the service manager did right by me. The deal was fair in my opinion since I never expected credit for aftermarket equipment etc. Your not going to steal a new vehicle from FCA but it felt better than driving a troublesome truck that I no longer liked.

It's funny how confusing this can be for some guys.
My buddy bought a brand new '89 Dodge Ram that turned out to be a ************* (Most of them were).
He was in and out of 3 different dealers for a year and a half.
He was such a pain on the ass that Dodge finally told him they'd buy it back.
He called me all happy and said they were gonna buy it back for the full amount that he originally paid for it.

I told him that, that wasn't the way it worked and he said I was wrong.

After Dodge got done doing the math and gave him the final numbers he was furious and cussed Dodge for the next 10 years and swore he'd never buy another truck from those ********.

He currently has a Grand Caravan and a Ram 3500 and is considering buying a new 3500.

He still cries about the ******' he took on that '89.
I still just grin at him whenever he starts talking about it.

Did any of those issues involve the Pentastar engine ? Just curious. Thanks

Yeah, I can't imagine FCA buying a 4 year old truck back due to a water leak but anything is possible, I suppose. At this point your best bet is to just stay on them to get them to fix the issue. It's good that you seem to have a documented history of the problem and repair attempts.

I had a customer years ago also complaining of a water leak that everyone was convinced it was the 3rd brake light. Turns out, the rear window was replaced & someone had slammed a door causing the sealant to blow out. Could be what's causing your issue.

If you have a lifetime max care, make them transfer it over as it's no longer offered.

As others said, unfortunately it's unlikely they they'll buy it back unless you're a major pain in their ass and quality for lemon law...

My truck had lots of issues with the engine, and fca rep calls me one day to provide update, and that they're getting me a new motor. I've been happy for about a week only to find out that she was mistaken as they didn't even start working on it, and they're going to keep trying to repair it instead.

So the fca rep is probably new and don't know what they're talking about unfortunately

Yes unfortunately a leak probably won’t do it. I had overheating, blown head gasket, tranny & torque converter, fuel system issues. So quite a bit different. A true lemon.

The service manager (not rep) is who I worked with constantly. He told the reps that when I came in to call him so he could take care of me. I never raised my voice one time through the whole episode which was 2 years in length. Taught me a lot of life lessons.

Well my concern is health problems for my 3 year old son given the mold created from the leak. The lemon law in California clearly says "manufacturer defect and authorized servicer unable to fix from initial attempt under warranty". Talked to lawyer, and ram care escalated to FCA and case is under review. I think when you say "mold" and child, people listen. I don't care about getting a new truck...I care about my son's health.

is your child (or you or your family for that matter) showing any symptoms when they ride in your truck? sneezing , itchy skin, rashes, runny nose, watery eyes, headaches etc? if so do they occur only in your truck? documenting any and all observations and incidents will help you. remember everyone reacts different to mold (some dont react at all). mold exists everywhere, you just want to prove that you have elevated levels in your truck from the leak. good luck
