Quick question......Been watching a few videos on the RAM 1500 with 3.0 ECO DIESEL and Ford with the small POWER STROKE

Both of these trucks get 25-30 mpg when not towing

When towing 7000 pound trailer they get 11-13 MPG as witnessed by a number of testing videos on youtube

It seems to me these engines are blowing their brains out towing. Going up hills they are doing upwards of 3500 RPM

Huge difference in fuel consumption......

In comparison, My 2006 RAM 2500 with 5.9 Diesel would get 18mpg non-towing and 13mpg towing.....And my new RAM 2500 with 6.4L Hemi gas motors does 18mpg non-towing and 11 mpg towing (both towing same trailer @ 7000 pounds)

What say you.....Will these little diesels last with that type of use?

Are you towing in the mountains or in the Midwest? I tow 7500 lbs from AZ. to Northern ID. and back each summer. MPG is 12.5 both ways. That being said, at 60k the engine spun a main. But at that time I was towing 3500 lbs. Other than that, no problems. Now at 94k miles.

What engine are you referring to?

I've had some customers towing 8000lbs 5th wheels with the EcoDiesel and they've been happy with them. They're no Cummins but as long as you're not expecting that kind of performance they do as well as any other half ton truck.

appearantly VernDiesel's 2014 EcoDiesel never got that memo. 371,000 miles on the first engine before lifting a head gasket. His second engine he is around the 250,000 mile mark so far, he tows AirStream trailers all over the country for the factory.

The 3.0 is a good engine. It's just guys like me that had one blow up. and I like to complain about it. And what I was realy mad about was the 2 1/2 months to replace it.
