Update. Dealer A ( the bad one) just called and said battery tested ok. They are going to leave it overnight and trust in a.m.

Does this make sense to anyone given that the truck was unable to start a few days ago???

That seems to be a common response from dealerships for this battery issue. A lot of 2019 Ram 1500's had issues with premature battery failure. Many people who have posted (on another forum) about their experiences with battery issues said that initially the dealer told them the battery tested ok. It depends on how they tested it. If they simply hung a volt meter across the battery, there could be enough of a surface charge that it will show a high enough voltage to pass. If they used an actual battery tester it will probably not pass. See if you can find out how they tested it.

They said they used a Chrysler GR8 tester. They said battery was fully charged and there was no current draw when truck was off, both last night and today when I picked up truck. Do you know anything good / bad abt the GR8? Thx for your comment.

Only what I found with google. Looks like a serious battery tester. I would trust them if they used that tester correctly. What did they find today?

One other issue that some people had was a ground issue. Again pretty much happened on 2019 models, where they didn't remove the paint from the grounding points. I'm not sure exactly which grounds were involved, but I believe it was in the engine bay.

Dealer A basically said battery was fine and there was no parasitic current draw occurring when vehicle was turned off. I picked up truck, drove it home (1.5 hr drive), making 2 stops along the way. This a.m. truck would not start and battery had 10.4V. Now making arrangements to tow the truck to Dealer B which is what I should have done last week. I didn't power on any systems, like lights, etc, on the way home so I am confident its not a case of me forgetting to turn something off that is draining the battery. Sigh....

It happened to my wifes Pacifica. It was just the aux battery and it took out the battery as well. Aux is for the start stop mess. Anyways Chrysler Care took care of us. They even towed it to my preferred dealer. It took me getting up in arms with them, but they did make it right. It was a 1 day fix. They told me it happens all the time. My mom just got a new 21 Pacifica and its doing the same thing. I told my dad to set an appointment now to get it take care of. CC did take care of us. They will take care of you. The customer service that I experienced was top notch.

Yes contact Chrysler Care and tell them what is going on. That was the first thing I did when ours died.

I find it surprising there is not a Technical Service Bullitin if there is historical documentation on this system. Ask the Ram Cares folks if there is one. If so, get the number...and have them email you a copy. Present it to the service writer manager. Nothing makes them look more stupid than doing their homework for them!

I have to wonder who the heck are Dealership A & B

I don't want to break down with my Ram & be typing in here in a month or 2 because your Dealership A screwed my truck up

Spit their name out if they are worthless

Not sure what the forum rules on naming and shaming and/or libelling specific dealers on the forum. But if any forum members are in CO let me know and I'll disclose who dealer A is. They are a high mountain ski town community with only one mechanic/ technician who can work on Rams. The rest of their service staff suffers from a don't really care attitude and possibly too much marijuana consumption....

Thank you

I can't operate my business in that State
They require $1,000,000 commercial auto and $1,000,000 Commercial Liability insurance for me to operate there.
I only carry $750,000 each & that is what most States require me to have

So i don't have any reason to be driving in that State :)

Maybe that dealership that only has 1 mechanic that can work on Ram Etorque batteries has already sent too many batteries out to the pot farms.
So they claimed that your battery was good, just to get you off the Hill

I'm Colorado (Front Range) and I get into the mountains all the time. Who / where should I be careful to avoid?

And who's Dealer B who sounds like they have their act together?

First off... If my battery was dead at 10v I would throw a charger on it and see if it would start. 90% of the time you can usually get enough to crank and start and then the alternator will keep the engine running...then I would have driven it to one of the dealers that you chose. Second I would have tested the battery myself and figured out what the problem was before the dealer got their hands on it. Dealer techs are not very bright and have almost no deducing/problem solving skills... if the computer doesn't tell them what to do they don't know how to figure out the problem.

Have you thought about replacing the battery yourself and then figuring out how to get the dealer to reimburse you? It sounds like the only option that doesn't leave you without a truck and not wasting $$$$ on gas and time driving back and forth 1.5hrs. Just saying a new AGM battery costs $200ish and would have saved you ALOT of headache. Even if you don't get reimbursed your only out $200 and you have a superior battery. My factory 2018 battery died in 3 years and that was after me keeping it alive for at least the last year. If your at 10v then you have a drain or the battery is toast and it only costs $30-40 for a battery tester that also tests load drop, voltage and alternator charging.

All these 5th gen issues make me glad I own my 2018 4th gen! Simpler = more better lol.

In my state a vehicle out of service for 20 business days within a calendar year is a lemon. That includes RAM to pay and not limited to all fees -taxes, tags, interest...

just saying.

Unless you bought the vehicle through chrysler friends and family promotion they advertise to everyone. They lock you into binding arbitration and you can not use the state lemon law.

I would dispute that Dealer A says there is no draw on the battery when the truck sits.
There are so many electronics on these trucks they have to keep some sort of power going to the systems.
