From what I saw it's not folding to get out of the way of the console opening, it folds down so you can fold the console forward to create a solid work surface for people that work out of their trucks. It's much easier to work on a computer a little further forward than on top of where the console lid is. I think it's an interesting design, though not something I need personally. The console should open as normal for storage with the shifter in it's normal position.
Don't recall saying it folded down every time you open the console, but I can be a bit more pedantic: Watching the 2021 Ford F-150 one fold to get out of the way of the console opening forward to create a flat work surface hurts my eyes. I don't like the mechanics of how it folds down after the button is pushed, that a button needs to be pushed for this process to start(why no micro switch trigger on open), or that this was their winning solution.

I spent many hours with my laptop comfortably sitting on the middle seat of my old truck with the column shifter, or using the space to fill out paper work. If it was going to be a while I'd often sit in the back seat using the back of the middle seat as a table. I'm expecting the same from my new RAM and it's dash mounted knob.

I'll give them half points for leaving the rear cup holders accessible.

I reckon I read your comment as saying it had to fold down in order to allow the console to open.

I’ve had to use my laptop on my console lid (don’t have a fold down seat) in my Ram and in my previous F150s, and it was very much uncomfortable and awkward with the way I had to contort in my seat, but that’s just me. I think having that flat space forward, over where the cup holders are on our trucks, is much more comfortable if one needs to use their truck as a work space.

and I suppose it could be an auto fold feature triggered by folding down of the lid, but I wouldn’t be fussed by the separate button. I’m sure the separate button allows enough time for it to get out of the way before someone flings the top open.

I don't really mind the dial shifter or the console shifter. Actually, in a truck like the TRX, I want the console shifter.

Starting price of the trx is 72,000. They smoking crack!

:flipthebird:
HA HAAAAAAAAAAA
That's the sticker price. I wonder how much it's going to cost with the ADM's??   :insane:

I'd take an old style column shifter for an automatic over a dial any day . At least they didn't go back to their old push buttons from the 60s .
I am use to the knob now, just miss the hand rest that the old one was, if you want a night mare, I had a 58 Edsel citation with the push button shift in the steering wheel, it drives a electrical unit on the transmission that some mad crack head engineer?? thought up, 5 miniuts to open up , 2 weeks to find all the springs and bits that fly all to hell and put it back together again. the old Desoto PB was a piece of cake.
Great car , if you had scads of money.

Probably, however you don't need a folding shifter to accomplish that.

The VW EOS, BWM i4, Pontiac G6, and Ferrari California are all examples of hard top convertibles. How this process is triggered, the complexity of the process, and the grace of the process are all different. One hurts my eyes to watch, while another seems like an elegant mechanic ballet.

I liked several of the old dash mounted push button autos, when the worked. Satisfying jukebox click.

The push buttons on the 2020 Lincoins Nautilus are poorly placed and just feel icky.

Dial shifter is a POS gimmick. I have that BS in my wife Durango. We both hate the stupid chit and no you never get used to that crap you're just resigned to have it cause you have no other choice. I'll take my colum shifter or even better a console shifter any day of week. POS dial shifter belongs into a damn Minivan and you know it.... Lol

I don't mind the dial shifter..the column shift in my F150 work pig is just awkward and feels outdated.

Floor/console shifters are the best however.

Actually, a manual trans is the best

I loved the console shifter in my 2013 so I am all in for the same shifter in my next truck. I have a new Rebel and the dial is now in a bulge on the dash that hits my knee if I am not careful. Give me the console shifter!

I also have the console shifter in my 2013. I hate the dial. My friend has the dial shifter in his 1500 and after 9 months he still curses when he gets in or out of the truck, because he reaches for a shifter or because he accidentally leaves it in driver before exiting. Lol

So I was reviewing pictures of the ram TRX ******* after a new truck when I noticed that the TRX has the 8-speed and a floor shifter.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Could this be a possible conversion to get rid of the damn rotary knob?

I'm curious if anyone else has spied this and has had the same thoughts

Thanks
Oh man id kill for a floor shifter with up/down manual mode like the old ram.. dial shifter is for the V6 crowd they love it lol.

I think the upgraded interior in the TRX is amazing!! AMAZING!
What a killer interior. Lots of room and nicely thought out.
