Took the boys to a car show yesterday. It was my son's 14th and he picked this show. It was a nice show. It had some cool views of downtown Dallas. We have that with downtown Fort Worth where we live so very similar. Ended up at a top 30 show with about 65 cars total by the time registration ended. We took Second place but its hard to beat out my buddies 87 rose GN. It was the birthday boys time to go up and get the award. He was so excited because everyone had been telling him happy birthday. It was a good day all in all. I got him a 1320 shirt to match mine that says electric cars have no soul. We both wore those yesterday.

I remember the first time I seen a Duster with the 340 decal on the hood back in 1973 I thought someone really screwed up putting the decal on before I found out it was factory, still not sure why they did it. Lol

When i was in Grade 10 ,there was 7 Dusters in my high School parking lot that were 340 cars, and another 3 that were 318 cars, they were popular as hell back then, lol. There was 1 69 Camaro RS/SS and my 68 Camaro and a couple Chevelles, the Dodge products definitely out numbered the Chebby and Ferd products, but there was also a hell'va good Chryco dealer in the town, lol.

Wrong car ,but according to the author it was the only good coloured photo he could find. 1972 when NHRA wrote the rulebook in Jenkins favour, and in alot of peoples opinion took the "Stock" out of Pro Stock ;)

Blast from the Past Drag Racing

Gary Lang · 1h ·

The car that radically changed the face of Pro Stock. In 1972 Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins debuted this small block Chevy powered Vega, the first tube frame equipped Pro Stocker. This light weight small block Chevy Vega ended the domination of Pro Stock that Chrysler Corporation had enjoyed with their heavier, more powerful Hemi cars. Jenkins reportedly pocketed over two hundred thousand dollars in prize money with this car in 1972.
Grumpy built weight bars for different series, and even had a stack of weights he put in the rear bumper for match racing. His own words were “wheelies sell tee-shirts”

You all were lucky to be around in the 60's/70's when these bad@$$ cars were first coming out. Even though I was around, I was lived in Hawaii from '68-'81 and we didn't get to see these cars unless a family would move there and brought one with them. I came back stateside in '85 and saw a Monte Carlo SS for the first time. Absolutely fell in love with them. Ended up buying a '82 MC with a 350 in it. It was fun while it lasted! LOL!! My dad had a '62 Impala SS was black body and white hardtop, red interior with bucket seats, fender skirts and he mounted a AC unit under the glove box. I'm going to have to find pictures of it now because the internet came up with nothing, but this is very close.

I always loved the 63-65 Impalas. Such classic styling and I loved the interiors.

One of my favorites as well, a buddy of ours bought a green '63 that was the definition of "only driven by a little old lady on Sundays". It was immaculate. Sadly, he was the definition of Pigpen from Charlie Brown. In a few months you couldn't get in the back seat because of all the trash back there. He ruined it, what a shame.

Gross. That is a shame. People just don't take care of things.

I had one of these, for a short time.

The 340 was stout. When I went to the insurance company to get it insured, I asked the agent why it was so expensive to insure. He told me it was a performance car. I told him it was only a 340.

He asked if it had a white stripe down both sides (which it did), and if so, it was the high performance Duster.

Dang it was fast. Dang, it used a lot of gas. The 390 and 351 Clevland I had were fuel misers compared to the 340.

Hence, it only stayed with me a short time.
