I had one of these, for a short time.

The 340 was stout. When I went to the insurance company to get it insured, I asked the agent why it was so expensive to insure. He told me it was a performance car. I told him it was only a 340.

He asked if it had a white stripe down both sides (which it did), and if so, it was the high performance Duster.

Dang it was fast. Dang, it used a lot of gas. The 390 and 351 Clevland I had were fuel misers compared to the 340.

Hence, it only stayed with me a short time.
Those were my least favorite because of the point they put in the middle of the front hood/grille but would loved to have had one like that especially with the 340.

Those crazy exhaust manifolds.
I always liked the 69-70 Cougars, and a R code 428 Super Cobra Jet with the Super Drag Pack with 4.30's and a Detriot Locker was no slouch on the street, and a hell'va sleeper, lol.

Right before I got out the navy in '96 I helped my buddy who had gotten out a couple months prior put his '69 Cougar back on the road. 351 auto. I remember trying to engineer a workaround for the sequential blinkers (NOS module was WAY too expensive for junior enlisted sailor money lol) and ended up just wiring them up so they'd be normal but at least functional so he could pass inspection. I've always had a thing for hideaway headlights, probably why I always had a spot for the early Cougars.
This ones a tough call,as i never was a fan of the fender gills and grill on the 71 Cuda's,plus the way this one sits i'm not huge fan of it's stance ,while i always thought the early T/A's were a hell'va good looking car.The upside is the 440 6 pack would usually outrun the 455 HO Poncho

1971 Plymouth Cuda 440 Six Pack or 1971 Pontiac Trans Am 455 H.O.

The '70 'cuda was beautiful and they just couldn't leave well enough alone. Mopar first, but honestly I'm probably going to have to go with the 455 (especially in that color scheme). Either that or sell the '71 and buy a '70 lol.

A '72 Road Runner a friend of mine had until 2010.
Just make me sad. I need to get another '72 (or even a '71).
66 Chevelle or 66 Fairlane

Fairlane, looks better. More closely resembles a '66 GTO.

When i was in Grade 10 ,there was 7 Dusters in my high School parking lot that were 340 cars, and another 3 that were 318 cars, they were popular as hell back then, lol. There was 1 69 Camaro RS/SS and my 68 Camaro and a couple Chevelles, the Dodge products definitely out numbered the Chebby and Ferd products, but there was also a hell'va good Chryco dealer in the town, lol.
When I was in high school in the late 80's many of us had cars from the 60's and 70's because high school kids usually couldn't afford new cars. My first car was a '72 Chevelle with a small block and automatic transmission. I paid $1500 for it. I think we had more Chevys than anything thing else. Novas, Impalas, square body pickups, but there was always some grey primered mustangs here and there. Funny how back then grey primer was a paint job and not just something you paint over. Lol

Grey and black primer was great for hiding imperfections. LOL

I miss the days of being able to buy decent muscle/pony cars for $2000 or less, and still find parts for them in any wrecking yard or at the local corner speed shop. Who else remembers when damn near every corner had a speed shop ;)

Was 1988 before I ever paid over $1500 for a car. The most I paid for a car before that was $1200 for my '68 Road Runner in '81 and that was because it only had 20,000ish miles on it. In '79 I bought a '70 Plymouth GTX for $500 because the guy thought it had to be rewired and I bought it and fixed it with a $11 ignition switch. Your right about speed shops, you could also buy a set of wheels and tires that was in stock 90% of the time and not have to know the metric system. Now you have to speak Chinese and know how to do the Ribik's cube to figure tire sizes out! Those days are long gone! LOL

LOL, yeah, Van Iderstine's was our go-to place, they hated us at first because we had no clue what we were doing to start, but we learned.

You mean your parents didn't lease you a new car in high school? I was also in HS in the 80's (great time to be in HS by the way). My grandmother passed and left me her '72 Dodge Dart with a slant 6 in it. Absolutely pristine - black with a white vinyl top and not an ounce of rust. With my busboy paychecks, I put a 318 in it from a friend's wrecked Duster, had American Racing slotted mags, Goodyear white letter tires and a set of Hijackers on the rear. What a blast.
I wish I had even a single picture of it...I guess I couldn't be bothered taking a picture and going to photomat and waiting a week to pick it up, lol. Who thought about the future and wanting a picture of it then anyway - but I wish I had. I sold it for $1,800!

I can't say much more than WOW! Wish there was more pictures of that exact car. That's my favorite year and body style, there's nothing I don't like about it.
You didn't want to see current pics of the car, lol. That pic was taken in 84,the current pics of it show it as being very rough
