Something like a 6 banger a small v8 car non SS car. Those all qualify for a modern drivetrain swap in my book. Leave the actual muscle cars alone.

Until you get it to a track and see what it runs,i question that 505 claim, lol.Take a week-end off from the carshow thing, and spend it at the track instead, besides you must be getting tired of sitting in a lawn chair, looking at the same cars every week-end lolI agree only if you are building a car that wasn't something rare. Who wouldn't want modern comforts. There was a 70 Chevelle there yesterday and I think he nailed the best of both worlds. He had a modern 454 carb still, but had a modern suspension that left it close to stock height, but gave him big front discs, the rear was still drums, but he also added 17" torque thrust wheels. He says he's been on the power tour and drives it everywhere. Now its not 700 hp, but lets be real who really needs that much power in a street car. Thats a tad much. I am making 505 and its a lot to handle. Can it go anywhere I want sure. Is it enjoyable to drive eh it simply wants to go and doesn't like being driven like a school teacher.
They are talking about opening my home track back up as we got one of my buddies in as mayor so fingers crossed. 505 is correct. I called the builder of the car to figure out what all the hell was done to it lol. First picture is my home track that I have a sticker to represent. Then the builder said they did a lot of work to the 4L60, but it really needs a TH350 or TH400 in it. He also said the first time I put sticky tires on it expect the 10 bolt rear end to kiss life goodbye. This is why I don't track it. 12 bolts for those cars are hella expensive. I was going to throw some drag radials on my drag stars and make a pass at good guys at the end of the month. Not now lol.Until you get it to a track and see what it runs,i question that 505 claim, lol.Take a week-end off from the carshow thing, and spend it at the track instead, besides you must be getting tired of sitting in a lawn chair, looking at the same cars every week-end lol

You got 10 grand for a 9" or a 12 bolt lol.Break it/fix it,that's all there is to itSounds like a bunch of excuses to me

You can hunt up a 12 bolt or 9" for alot less then that, and weld the brackets that you need onto it.It's still a normal live axle under the car,so it's easy to adapt pretty well any axle you want into it.If it costs anymore then 4 grand, you need to rethink how you're doing thingsYou got 10 grand for a 9" or a 12 bolt lol.

Things have gone way up. You used to could do it for a lot less. Last quote I got from my guy at TDP was 8-10k. I wish I could weld, but sadly that is one thing I never learned. This is what transmission is in it and as you can see its not far off the max power. That is about as far as most people want to go with the 4l60. People will build them for usage over 1000, but that is a pretty price tag. It would be more cost effective to go TH350 or 400.You can hunt up a 12 bolt or 9" for alot less then that, and weld the brackets that you need onto it.It's still a normal live axle under the car,so it's easy to adapt pretty well any axle you want into it.If it costs anymore then 4 grand, you need to rethink how you're doing things
I think you're stretching things a bit far with claiming $12,000 to put a live axle under the car
Hell you can put a 9" with the full rear chassis in a independent rear Challenger for $10,000,and that includes the complete rear chassis redesign
4L80E,basically a 400 with an overdrive, For that price you'd be farther ahead having a welder come to your house and weld the brackets,if you can't weldThings have gone way up. This was actually just discussed and the 80s are trashed now days. Its not a cost effective thing to do anymore. It once was when they had lower milage and you could get them for next to nothing. They stopped making them in 2013 so most of them are going to have over 300k on them. Thats where 60 is the better build now days. I have already bought a set of clutch pedals for the car. So just need the rest of it.4L80E,basically a 400 with an overdrive, For that price you'd be farther ahead having a welder come to your house and weld the brackets,if you can't weld
I need to get past this adoption of my wifes boys and all of the lawyer fees of fighting her deceased ex's family long story of neglect and abuse to these boys and this up coming November and then maybe I can start piecing it together next year. Right now I just pray I don't go on an on ramp and hit 4 neutrals lol. You're going to be rebuilding any 400 you find if it's not already built,as they quit making the 400 somewhere around 90,so what's the differance between rebuilding a 80 or 85 compared to a 400. Very few guys are running the 60 in a hi-po application, not sure where you're getting your info from, but it's a bit out in left field. The local hi-po transmission builder won't even build a 4L60 for anything making 400hp and up,as he doesn't want the comebacks, and he has transmissions holding 2,000 hpThis was actually just discussed and the 80s are trashed now days. And this is why you Viper spec a T56 and call it good. I have the hardest part to find the pedals. I hate autos, but this car was too clean to let slip away. 2 owners. First owner had it for 20 years and then older man I got it from did all the work to it and had it a year before his wife put her foot down on him doing anymore racing at 73. We have several awesome auto builders in the area. The builder who did my transmission does a lot of work for my aunts husband who races a S10 small tire I believe he's still doing the 10.5 class. It just costs a lot to make these new GM transmissions hold power. I would say 85% of all of your high hp street 4th gen F bodies are T56 cars. Plus I would much rather be banging gears. 85% i think you need to make more trips to your local track, lol. There's only one 4th gen that i know here that's running low 10's with a stick, and he's good on the clutch and shifter, but every other 8 and 9 sec 4th gen are auto's with some being a 4L80 /some a 400,and two utilizing a 2 speed auto, sort of based on a power glide, but only sort of,lol. And this is why you Viper spec a T56 and call it good.
