2014 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn HEMI (250 miles)

Hi guys. Brand new truck and every time I drive it over bumps on the road, I hear a rattle coming from the moonroof area. Anyone else with this issue? Little concerned given it brand new. I would hate to take it to the dealership and do the whole "it's fine or we can't replicate the issue".

I think it may be coming from the accordion looking plastic that attaches to the glass and the truck, but I may be wrong .

Thanks in advance.

Push up on the headliner around the sunroof opening. There are patches of this hard plastic Velcro stuff that holds the headliner to the sunroof frame. Sometimes they come loose. You'll hear a snap when they click together.

If that's not it there is a new TSB out. TSB 23-023-14. Some of the trucks the sheet metal in the roof wasn't properly bonded to the roof bow. Sit in the driver seat of your truck with the windows up. Now open the driver door and slam it closed, if your hear the rattle, the tsb applies.

The headliner will have to be lowered to re-bond the roof sheet metal to the roof bow.

If it is your 14, it should be under warranty. The headliner needs to come out so the roof skin can be glued down if that is the problem.

What you need to do is phone the dealership telling them you have a rattle from the roof and that it can be duplicated when slamming the driver door shut. Also let them know you have the tsb number.

They will check to ensure the tsb applies, it's a very small build range of trucks that were effected. What will be done is, the headliner will be lowered and the roof sheet metal will be bonded to the roof bow using a urethane adhesive.

Thanks. Guess I'm just a little uneasy having someone taking it apart and not putting it back together right. Thanks for your input and help.

i have had a related issue with my brand new 2016 ram. After having the sunroof replaced twice on it due to leakage issues, my headliner has come loose from those velcro squares. i tried to push it back into place but it just wont stay. i took it to the dealership today and after having multiple techs look at it, i was told it could not be fixed and that "velcro sucks." they advised me to go to home depot to buy more velcro to add to it. I find this rediculous, as the velcro was almost certainly weakened after all of the sunroof repairs. is it really a problem that cant be fixed?

Hi jwcable,

I'd like to follow up with your dealership on this issue. Please send a PM with your VIN.

Fix for sunroof noise

I had enough of the rattle.....so last Saturday I decided to take the headliner down and drive my truck around for a while and try to pinpoint the noise.... after dropping the sunroof down about a foot I realized. That the headliner was not coming out to many wires and it's very big to fit out of a door opening.... So I stuck my hand above the headliner and under the inside of the roof and started banging around trying to replicate the noise.... I was able to replicate the noise by banging on the cross member that holds the back of the sunroof up..... The cross member runs from side to side under the back of the sun roof and the sunroof rest on it and the only thing in between the sunroof and the cross member is a soft piece of velcro... That I guess has worn down over the years.... so I decided to try two 2 inch pieces of gray 3/4 pipe installation I cut them in half...now I have four pieces....I used a Angled door panel puller to stick in-between the cross member and the sunroof And eased a piece of the insulation in the rear passenger side corner of the cross member. Then I did it in the front passenger side corner of the cross member and repeated the same thing on the other side.... nowI have 4 pieces front and back. Or all 4 corners in between the sunroof and the cross member..... Put everything back together took it for a test drive and no rattles...... I hope this helps.... it took about three hours.....ps... Don't waste your time with the antenna in the third break light hole it doesn't work.....the image is all I used...just the other side of the factory cut and get your four pieces...... There are videos on YouTube show you how to take the headliner down....
