Disable the backup sensors. It shouldn’t be the emergency “break” locking up. It’s the regular brakes. You could try disabling the rear sensors. Is your driveway a steep pitch and it may be picking up the driveway?

Strange it's the E Brake. So you have to actually release it to keep moving?

We have a 21 and a 22 Mopar with all the warning/collision avoidance features. I notice they are a lot more sensitive when backing up quickly. Fortunately, I rarely have to do that.

Sounds like the backup sensor is detecting something. First time it happened to me was backing out of a parking space with bushes behind. Locked up with a horrible noise and scared the crap out of me. Thought I'd hit something for sure.

Same, mine picked up a small bush, and locked up.

OP, U got buttons (switches) under radio, just disable when backing up. ALSO, in U Connect, there is a sensor sensitivity setting, make sure set to Low. But them sensors are weird, and sometimes U just have to reach over, hit the button and turn them off, just how it is. Mine scream and yell at me all the time, sometimes, backing up in parking lot, makes me check mirrors twice before backing and/or just turn them off till going fwd, their is no rhyme or reason how they sometimes work.

The only thing that sets off my e brake on my 2020 is if I open my door while in gear and my seat belt is off. The rear parking alarms alone should not set off your e brake.

Try it an open parking lot. Back up slow, med and fast see how it reacts. If it's locking up with nothing behind it and it's repeatable, I'd look into a warranty claim.

OP: Not emergency brake when engaged, rear brakes.
There may be times when U need to turn off rear park sensors, depending upon terrain, etc.

The automatic braking function is intended to assist the
driver in avoiding possible collisions with detected obstacles
when backing up in REVERSE gear.
NOTE:
• The driver is always responsible for controlling the
vehicle.
• The system is provided to assist the driver and not to
substitute the driver.
• The driver must stay in full control of the vehicle’s
acceleration and braking and is responsible for the
vehicle’s movements.
Refer to “ParkSense System Usage Precautions” in this
section for limitations of this system and recommendations.
ParkSense will retain the last system state (enabled or
disabled) from the last ignition cycle when the ignition is
changed to the ON/RUN position.
ParkSense can be active only when the gear selector is in
REVERSE or DRIVE. If ParkSense is enabled at one of these
gear selector positions, the system will remain active until
the vehicle speed is increased to approximately 7 mph
(11 km/h) or above. A warning will appear in the instrument
cluster display indicating the vehicle is above
ParkSense operating speed. The system will become active
again if the vehicle speed is decreased to speeds less than
approximately 6 mph (9 km/h).

ADDED: There are a few more advanced systems than I have in my lowly optioned Bighorn, like park sense, lane avoidance, I do not have all those fancy options so can only speak to the automatic braking function for reverse on MY 19. And, BTW, U can go into U Connect and turn off the option.

In the beginning I had to turn it off because the brakes would engage every 2 feet and I'd look like an idiot.

The software updates have made mine better but I still have an issue with shadows and shine (rain) on the road.

Mine gets squirrely when backing out of parking slots sometimes for no reason. I was backing up by a restaurant to go eat, and a small branch far away set it off and the truck locked up. Boy did I get a lot of are U friggin stupid looks. So I have learned to turn off when I need to.

ADDED: I get no software updates on my DT truck, running on original software and U Connect IOS. I only have a plain jane U Connect 4 radio, no 911, guardian, nav ne thing. SO I get no OTA's. I would have to pay to have dealer flash and my SA told me, leave all alone as long as OK, as the updates were bricking the radios, so I am still on original software from April 2018.

I've gotten quite a few software updates during the basic warranty and haven't had any issues (bricking). I figured that if they flash it for free and brick it then they'd be fixing it for free. I'd just be out the time in the shop and quiet drives while I wait for parts.

They do the same thing on my wifes pacifica van too. Scares the crap out me too. I mean it locks the brakes, when it thinks there is a issue. So I just turn the front and rear sensors off!

I had my first lock up experience the other day. I was backing out of a steeply angled parking space at the local pizza place and the brakes locked up when I got to the bottom near the street. Freaked me out. A few days later I was pulling forward out of my driveway. The neighbor across the street had a small pile of leaves in the street. When I got close to the pile the brakes locked up again. I've only had this truck for about 6 weeks. Still getting use to this stuff.

Lotta safety stuff in RAMs these days. The autobrake will engage when backing down a steep hill too fast. Sensors see bottom of driveway coming fast. Don't recommend having an open container in your lap until on flatter ground.

Another trick is to back down the driveway at an angle. Works, but leaves tire ruts in the lawn.

Gee, as a Old truck (14) driver, this sounds weird, But if you had small kids running around , nice idea, Kind of like opening the drivers door when backing up, and you forget and than
"what the Hell"
My front parking sensors yell at me when parking in the garage and backing out all the time.
