There is a huge bolt and washer in the center of my rear bumper. Its right over the hitch receiver. The bolt head is sticking up far enough that the rubber grommet cannot be installed. Can someone tell me what this bolt is for?

Thanks!

Your truck came with the hitch delete. So to ad the hitch back on whoever you bought it from bought the Mopar hitch and added it back. That bolt holds the hitch to the bumper, helps tie it all in as it’s also bolted to the cross brace under your truck going from side to side of the frame.

I will get a photo posted sometime tomorrow. I have both the build sheet and the window sticker (attached). It states
"Trailer Tow w/4-pin connector wiring" ??

Thanks for your reply!

You truck most likely has ahitch like this installed. 2 bikes into the cross member, and then one large one up through the step bumper where you would normally mount a hitch ball if not using a receiver hitch.

That should be exactly what he has. It’s what I added to my 1500 when I had it and it was just as op described.

Here is the picture of the rear bumper and the bolt sticking up. I think that CanadianKodiak70 is correct. I will check to confirm. Perhaps if I shorten the bolt a little, it will be flush with the top of the bumper.

This is exactly what he needs. Hopefully it fits since we don’t know what brand his hitch is. My Mopar hitch came with this exact plug when I added it to my old truck

As far as I can see he has the OEM bumper so Should fit ???
I have seen that set up at the Auto Auctions. The one I have is the common flat one !

I added this hitch to my 2017 Express. Note the head on the through-bolt, which was included with the hitch and fits under the black plug. My truck came with no hitch, so there was just the open hole under the plug. The round under-bed frame hitch section WAS already there. This fits flush so you can re-install the factory cover/plug. You should be able to find a bolt with a head like this, make sure it's strong enough to do the job.s-l1600.jpg

I checked under MY 19, which has the Optional Class IV Receiver Hitch instead of the Class III. I checked, that receiver hitch is actually molded to and welded to (1) bar that goes from side to side. I see no bolts going to the bumper.

Shortening the bolt won't lower the height it stick above the bumper as it tightens to the bumper.
If memory serves me correctly that bolt needs to be torqued to 275 ft/lbs.

It does look a little high to me, I’d make sure it’s tight,if there’s any play in it it will tear out that hole in the receiver. Had it happen, it sucks.
