Thought I share this.Maybe somebody will learn from my mistake.
I was driving one day went over and speed bump. Bam a loud smack. Engine light came on. I've been having issues with the truck moving from park. It takes about 2000rpm to start to move. I made the mistake of just automatically asuming the trans went out. So I started to look for an new trans. Well I was gonna purchase the trans twomorow but I wanted to dubble check myself. And hooked up to the obd2 well I was completely stunned that no trans codes were coming up just RaNdom misfires. I look into the power train further and noticed gear oil on the rear diff. And noticed I have an u joint going out. I pulled the cover off the diff to find an cracked in half spider gear along with the other spider gear on the magnet.the rod that holds the spider gears in is bent. Complety intact.with a slight chip I pulled the diff out and found chiped ring and pionon. So don't get ahead yourself when diagnosing your power train. Now a question, any body have idea how this happend? Any recommendations on a new ring in pionon I was gonna upgrade to an 4;10

Take it for what it's worth.

I just bought an 08 and spent about $1700 getting everything repaired / replaced, including a leaking pinion seal at the rear yoke. No issues I'd noticed prior to that. When I left the garage I noticed just the slightest vibration in the gas pedal and through the steering wheel, almost imperceptible, but definitely there, so I went back to the shop. Techie took it about a kilometer down the road and drove it right onto a lift, pulled the driveshaft, figured it must be a u-joint or something. Couldn't find anything loose or wobbly though...

When we were sniffing around he rested his hand on the pumpkin and it was boiling hot. We knew right away the rear diff was shot, but no idea what caused it. So we got it to a transmission / rear end specialist at my request and they took the diff apart. The gears were intact, but horribly worn out. All this with only 118,000 km on it!

So the verdict, from a specialist is that the metal from the factory was simply junk. Absolute garbage metal and it had fatigued, well on its way to exploding.

Long story to get to my point, but is it possible that yours is the same as mine was? The specialist said it's not the first time he'd seen it in a Dodge, so it's got to be possible that they made plenty of them like that.

I never did get to see the gears, had to leave for work, but there's a possibly solution anyways.
