I have a 2017 Ram Diesel, 68 RFE Transmission, Crew Cab, Short bed, 4X4 with 20" wheels. We want to purchase a Fifth wheel trailer but the pin weight is over the recommended limit. I have checked and believe the rear end housings to be the same on both the 2500 and 3500 except for the spring set up, leaf vs coil. Am I right that the housing and gearing is the same, if so I want to install a Firestone Air Bag system to better support the additional weight. Has anyone had experience with this set up? If so which Firestone system is recommended or is another manufacturer recommended.

Regardless of extra support or not, pin weight is pin weight. Be careful here. Are we talking 10 lbs overweight, or 1000 lbs overweight? :)

Firestone air bags aren't bad, but usually overpriced for what you get. Airlift is another company that is very popular, but their customer service can leave a bit to be desired.
I bought the Timbergrove units, and like them so far. Here is a link to their 2500 version.

You are correct. The springs are what’s different. You’re on a whole new topic almost as hot as politics lol. I’m not saying do it or don’t do it. I’m saying that the only difference is springs and leafs lol.
