Hi all, We have a 2012 3500 CTD CC SRW. 120000km
Had a bearing kit put in the rear diff 3000km ago. One bearing was noisy.
Has a howl from 60-80km/hr after that which wasn't there previously.
Now it has a loud snap sound when moving from reverse to forward but only with front wheels turned.
When pulling ahead straight it's quite.
Any suggestions on what to look for?
Cheers

outer bearings at the wheel? pinion bearing? Are you implying that there is a backlash problem in your gearset? Not specifically sure if the 11.5 / 11.8 has a crush washer for the pinion but did you use a new one and your preload is set correctly?

Have you tried u joints? Are you sure the sound is from the rear diff?

Yes all good thoughts.. pinion bearing is new, not sure about crush washer..local mechanic did the repairs to diff. hoping he is dependable. I now can make it do same snap going straight ahead after being in reverse but only when a bit a throttle is applied..hoping its just ujoints binding up. There is a bit of play in T-case output bearing as well..aghhh
Damn...120,000 babied km and all sorts of issues..

U joints are cheap. might be worth starting there.

second choice would be pull diff cover and check your wear pattern and backlash. would probably do both.
