Can I swap the rear end of my 2016 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 short bed with a 2500 rear end?

The 2500 will be a completely different model of rear axle. It's much bigger and uses 8 lug wheels. To be honest I'm not sure if the coil spring, shock, swaybar mounts are the same between a 1500 and 2500. Also the driveshaft u-joints and the brake lines and such. I've done 1500 to 2500 rear axle swaps on several older vehicles but don't know the specifics on this. Doubt it's a direct bolt in swap, but don't know if it would just require minor modifications or extensive mods............

"Why" would be my first question, legally it's not going to change it's towing or load capacity.
Anything can be swapped, just how much you want to spend will be the issue. It's going to entail a bit of welding, and i'm gonna guess you'll need to have a hybred driveshaft fabbed up

Well sure, anything can be done with enough work. But it isnt just gonna bolt in. Control arm mounts, coil pads, sway bar mounts, shock mounts, track bar mount etc are all a little different. Plus im sure the gear ratio isnt gonna be the same, and the wheels will have to be mismatched.

Seems like it would be a lot of work, for????

Agree with the above posts. Answering "why" you want this axle will make a difference. If your stock axle failed and you are just looking for a replacement to bolt in....then no, the 2500 axle is not what you want. If you want something that just bolts up to the truck in a hour.......again no, this is not what you want.
Can you make a 2500 rear axle fit in a 1500.......definitely yes you could. But as mentioned it won't just bolt in.

You still haven't said why you wanted to put a 2500's diff under a 1500

If you're looking for a way to make the rear axle survive from a stock or modified 5.7 HEMI that's in a truck that weighs over 5,500lbs in full street trim then there are plenty of aftermarket parts available to make them stronger and more reliable.
